[Movie] The Mandalorian and Grogu (The Movie): More of the same from the Tv Show

Poster available at The Movie Db

I wasn't hyped to watch this movie, but in the end it surprised me. I watched it because it was maybe the most interesting movie after "Nuremberg" available on the plane. For a long time, I avoided any type of new Star Wars universe movie. And I watched the Mandalorian series (not sure if I finished all seasons, but I still watched at least 2 seasons I watched), and this movie, "Mandalorian and Grogu," was ok for me in the end. It made a good effect in my long flight: A fun movie that keep you watching the whole time.

When the TV series was released, I got a bit hyped because people were saying that it was the best TV show of the Star Wars Universe. And it was, and it created this cute character that made the brand sell lots of toys again: Grogu, or how people started to callhim "Baby Yoda". The cutest character since the Ewoks. It won't surprise me if they release a movie just about Grogu lol. The movie brings Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian; the actor fits well as an honoured warrior, which for me is a character inspired by the samurai from Akira Kurosawa. The movie still brings Sigourney Weaver and the easter egg of Martin Scorsese's voice being borrowed 4 hands alien owner of a food truck.

The movie also brings back Hutt aliens that were immortalized by Jabba the Hutt,t probably one of the most famous aliens from the original trilogy of Star Wars, but here is the son of Jabba that was exiled from his planet, net and the initial quest is about the Mandalorian and Grogu being hired to find him by his uncles.

Of course, there are some twists in the story, and we see that the Hutts aren't much to be trusted. So the story has a lot of action, suspense, and the cuteness of Grogu dealing with some interesting challenges. The movie plays ok with a fun story for 2h20. So many other movies from the Universe that I just skipped, but this one makes me attracted; maybe this samurai feeling of Mandalorian makes me attached to this character.

The movie is OK, and it was made just to make more money with the franchise. It could very well be a season of the show since it doesn't bring much. At least compared to the seasons that I watched, the movie is very similar to what happened. Mandalorian and Grogu are building their relationship of friends more and more, which goes closer to family, which fits well. A Ronin without any family and an abandoned alien that also doesn't have any family. So if you have Disney,+ watch it, but I wouldn't spend money buying it.

I haven't come across this movie anywhere before, but your review reveal shows me how interesting this movie will be. Excellent and powerful review @gwajnberg 👍💯

I remember the tv show being pretty engaging to begin with, but then started to lose me a bit as it diverged from what made it interesting in the first place.

I think I just got the Star Wars fatigue in the end. I wish it was a bit more gritty, a bit more serious. Apparently Andor was that way, haven't seen that either though.

  • My original expectations were low from the the prequel trilogy movies. I was impressed with some of the episodes I did see but I haven't seen the series as a whole. One of these days I will get some free time to binge watch this on a dark and stormy night.

  • I think the more a movie or series is hyped, the easier for it to fall below expectations so I usually try to keep mine low until I watch it. I've always been fascinated by the Star Wars universe but never gotten around to seeing it. I didn't even know The Mandalorian began as a TV series so you've given me something to add to my watchlist.

Your final verdict on this movie feels fair. Sometimes a familiar story with characters we enjoy is enough for an entertaining watch even when the story doesn't bring anything new. Good review!

I'll have to check if it's on HBO already, I'd watch that one, too. I try to watch all the movies, just to keep up, and some have quite nice action - good to not think too much. But many times, I can't really get through them. Same goes for the Marvel Universe, although they say that the new Spiderman is really good.

I watched this and to be honest, it was just decent, nothing special about it. But it was nice to see something new
