[Gamescom] We got a lot of announcements - mostly underdogs, new releases with decent budgets, game refreshes... Besides The Witcher and maybe 2 or 3 titles, there wasn't anything truly POWERFUL. I assume it's because it's the first day and the real bombshells will come later.
HoMM 3 - it's nice that it's getting a remake, but it's just a cash grab. Ubisoft sees that we in Europe are playing HoMMN 3, and Olden Era supposedly sold well (over a million copies sold, 3.5-4k active players daily), so they want to attract us. The cinematics look great, the combat reminds me of HoMM 5, but the whole thing is too... plasticky. Not like Olden Era, but I'm not convinced. I bet it will be another forgotten game. If someone wants to revive HoMM 3, it's best to reach out to the fans behind the expansions, not create something from scratch. Fans of this series are generally divided into two groups anyway: hardcore players who play with fan-made expansions, and fans who remember it. We all have HoMM HD on GOG, and it's awesome. It's great that the Witcher remaster will be free. Even better that the combat system, horse controls, and character progression have been changed; it's almost like we're getting a new game.
I think my theory from two years ago has been confirmed. I have a friend who has a friend, and that friend is working on DLC for The Witcher 3 (just in case, so many people worked on that game that, according to experts like Okiem Deva, it's not unusual to have a co-creator among your friends). I was born in 1989, and my friend is a few years younger, so let's say 33-35. If CDPRed has such a team, and according to my information confirmed by other sources (experienced programmers familiar with Red Engine), they can slap on DLC for their games every now and then.
They hire a good writer, get guidelines from the parent company about what the expansion should be (roughly) about and what its framework is (roughly) and that's it. AoE 2 is constantly releasing new expansions. If the game is done well, it will still function just as intuitively years later (Rollercoaster Tycoon, GTA 1, HoMM 3, Half-Life 1, Quake 1, Doom 1, and so on...). It's similar with The Witcher – although reviews from beginners are becoming increasingly rare, I still occasionally come across someone playing The Witcher 3 for the first time. Almost everyone is stunned by the quality of the Polish game developers. The core of the game is already there, they just need to work on a semi-finished product, and it's done. [Witcher 4] The game is scheduled for release in 2028. I'd bet 50 PLN (about $10) that it's not even an option. And even if by some miracle it were, CDPR games are unplayable garbage to begin with, and that's a tradition. Lots of bugs, some not fully fixed (Witcher 3, CP 2077 still have them), and drastic changes to the skill tree (they were changed quite late in Witcher 3, despite players complaining about them from the start). [Gamescom] Dostaliśmy dużo ogłoszeń - głównie takich underdogów, nowości z niezłym budżetem, odświeżenia gry... Poza Wiedźminem i może 2,3 tytułami nie było czegoś naprawdę MOCNEGO. Zakładam, że powodem jest pierwszy dzień i prawdziwe bomby pojawią się potem.
HoMM 3 - fajnie, że dostanie remake, ale to zwykły skok na kasę. Ubisoft widzi, że my w Europie gramy w HoMMN 3, a Olden Era podobno sprzedała się dobrze (ponad milion sprzedanych kopii, 3.5-4k graczy aktywnych codziennie), więc chcą przyciągnąć nas do siebie. Cinematicy wyglądają fajnie, walka kojarzy mi się z HoMM 5, ale całość jest taka zbyt... Plastikowa. Nie tak jak Olden Era, ale nie czuję się przekonany. Stawiam że to będzie kolejna zapomniana gra. Jeśli ktoś chce wskrzesić HoMM 3, to najlepiej dogadać się z fanami od dodatków, a nie tworzyć coś samemu od zera. Jeśli gra została zrobiona dobrze, to będzie tak samo intuicyjnie dzialać po latach (Rollercoaster Tycoon, GTA 1, HoMM 3, Half Life 1, Quake 1, Doom 1 i tak dalej...). Z Wiedźminem jest podobnie - choć opinie początkujących są coraz rzadsze, to ciągle czasem trafię na kogoś, kto gra w Wiedźmina 3 po raz pierwszy. Niemal zawsze wszyscy są oszołomieni jakością polskich game developerów. Podstawa gry już jest, wystarczy popracować nad pół-produktem i gotowe. [Witcher 4] Gra ma trafić do sprzedaży w 2028. Już teraz mogę postawić 50 PLN (około 10$), że nawet nie ma takiej opcji. A nawet gdyby jakimś cudem było inaczej, gry CDPRed są niegrywalnym śmieciem na start i to tradycja. Mnóstwo błędów, niektóre niepoprawione do końca (Witcher 3, CP 2077 nadal je mają), drastyczne zmiany w drzewku rozwoju (W W3 zmieniono je dość późno, mimo że gracze narzekali na nie od początku).
