A Dreamlike Journey to the Roots of the Father River
‘> °Where the water reflects the sky, the current ceases to be a path and turns into memory°
Travelling in my imaginary spaceship from Naguanagua, Carabobo state, in a spirit of simplicity, allows me to focus on the plausible truth of natural beauty and connect with my deepest emotions. The seamless way the journey unfolds to return to Caicara del Orinoco keeps the light of my inner self awake. Returning to my personal and family roots — which encompass the context of the Middle Orinoco region — is a fascinating adventure. My desire is to recharge my heart with energy; I hear how it tolls within my chest, as my inner melody blends harmoniously with the brightness and colour of the Guárico plains, amidst the endless green and the white lilies blooming in the month of May.
Enraptured, I find myself on the banks of the Orinoco, that umbilical cord of water and memory that feeds the soul. I breathe in the scent of mud and wind, the smell of fresh river fish, and the murmur of the breeze in my ears, which mingles with the roar of the outboard motor of a fisherman sailing upstream to arrive early at the riverside port of Cabruta. I admire the colour of the waters: a fluid skin of bronze and white coffee that stirs the very fibres of my being. This striking palette seeped into the basin of the rushing Orinoco is breathtaking as it gently glides its waters like an ancestral serpent across the crown of South America.
Imbued with this joy, I await to board the boat that will take us from this bank to the port of Caicara del Orinoco. It is half past five in the afternoon when we depart from Cabruta. I travel downstream, right in the centre of the river, holding onto the spirit of the moment as dusk suddenly falls over the plains. I take delight in the shades of sunset: the sun captivates me with the geometry of the sky and the power of the river, its waters traced with trails of flour and silver carved out by the chalana ferry’s engine at its rhythmic pace.
On this passage, the triangle captures me; I am encapsulated. Cabruta and Caicara stand as two earthly anchors, while the third vertex rises directly towards the sun. Sailing through its centre is to perch upon the apex of an invisible portal: I bathe in the sideral substance of solar auras, in an alembic where light dissolves upon the riverbed. I always carry amber in the rucksack of my soul, and that geometric trinity traced in the sky refreshes my spirit. It is marvellous to experience the adventure of travelling towards the heart of the dreamlike Orinoco, where the water ceases to be a mere current and becomes an inverted firmament.
Feel the immense pleasure of knowing that my being is recharged in this vital centre. Yes, it is the substance of ether, of prana, of the eternal void that heralds everlasting life. I feel fulfilled and content, nourished by living nature, by the beloved, tender, and scorching sun, by the telluric pulse of the Orinoco, and by the supreme intelligence that governs the universe.
