Cycling #ChitChat – Week 24 / Weekly summary, podiums and prompts

Hello!

I struggled to choose between the photo of the tent and the one I finally used for the cover of this weekly recap. If you missed stortebeker’s post, do take a look: it tells of a place that at first sight seemed dreadful, yet gradually unveiled its hidden treasures. Truly, arriving at a dusty village by bicycle—sweaty, with your body crying out for rest—feels far harsher than arriving by more comfortable means. And here lies today’s reflection: despite all that, the bicycle draws you closer to places and their people. That is how you find yourself thrilled by those adventures, those magical corners brimming with stories and curiosities, reached through your own strength and determination. Perhaps you stumbled upon them simply because you needed a pause; otherwise, you might never have known they existed.

So, applause for the author of the cover photo.

@matisport, you rode an impressive distance over four straight days, if I’m not wrong. Share with us how you’re coping with the tiredness and recovery. The table reveals your average speed tapered off little by little, but still, those opening 182 km at 18.6 are outstanding.

What fascinates me is endurance cycling and the quest for greater performance. I’ve come across a few tips online and thought I’d share them here. Yet, I’m eager to hear the insights of our seasoned athletes.

Practical Takeaways for Fondo Cycling

Build endurance first: long Zone 2 rides are non‑negotiable.

Add intensity sparingly: short intervals at Zone 4–5 sharpen performance.

Fuel consistently: don’t wait until fatigue hits; eat and drink early.

Respect recovery: performance gains happen during rest, not just training.

Think efficiency: every watt saved through posture, cadence, or aerodynamics counts in fondo events.
