Greetings, dear friends at Geek Zone! Today I’m back in this wonderful community after a long time away, but I hadn’t actually made any tech purchases since the last time I was around here. I’d been meaning to buy a new phone because mine was already crying out for help. With so many models to choose from, I didn’t know what to buy—I just knew it would be from the Xiaomi series because my Redmi 9 turned out to be great. A friend recommended this brand to me during the pandemic, and I took his advice—he was right. My Redmi 9 is now 5 and a half years old; it’s physically intact, except for a small green spot that recently appeared on the left side of the screen—I guess from all the drops. The battery works very well. At first, the 5020 mAh battery would last me two days, but naturally, that has decreased over time; however, it still performs well.

Why did I buy another phone if everything is fine? I didn’t buy a new device because my Redmi 9 is old and ugly—it’s because performance issues started cropping up. It would freeze, the storage was full, it would crash, the system wouldn’t respond—WhatsApp, the gallery, everything. Suddenly, the “not responding” message became a frequent occurrence. I use my phone for my main job—photos are essential—and, of course, I also post on Hive. In addition to those glitches, the phone started rebooting—at first when watching videos and listening to audio on WhatsApp, and later after just about any activity.

To make a long story short, I was without a phone for several days, but before that, I saved some photos to post on Hive. While searching for tutorials, I followed the recommendation to update Android because that might solve the problem; however, during the reboot, it froze. Then it came back to life—it nearly gave me a heart attack—but the problem persisted. At a repair shop, they told me the memory was causing the reboots and that it might be the battery. I went crazy saving the photos by transferring them to the microSD card in the brief moment the phone was stable. They found the real problem at a store called Canguro: the battery had a damaged resistor that was causing the constant reboots. Not only was turning on the phone a nightmare, but it was also acting like a short circuit. When the battery was under strain from videos and other resource-intensive functions, it couldn’t handle it, and the phone would shut down or reboot. It was fixed, but it’s still not fast. To help, I freed up some memory, but even so, sometimes the message “such-and-such app or Chrome isn’t responding” pops up, so I didn’t put off buying a new phone any longer. To make matters worse, one day I woke up to find it wouldn’t charge—what a stress! I thought it was the charging port, but I ran a test and it turned out to be the cable, which I replaced right away.

The good news is that I managed to save photos from my work and for my posts on Hive. In addition to the limited storage, I always complained about the IPS LCD screen’s resolution, which is very poor outdoors, and I had a hard time seeing messages, reading them, and taking photos. After 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, the logical and ideal choice is to buy a smartphone with superior technology. I wanted the Redmi Note 15, but in the end, after a lot of searching and research, I bought the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G. In my opinion, the phone isn’t cheap—it cost me $472—but considering its features, it’s affordable compared to other brands.

When I went to the DLR store, it was on display; it was the only model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage they had available. The other one left was the 512GB ROM version in black, but my budget only covered the first option. The box wasn’t sealed, obviously, for the reason I already explained—I bought the last one in the store. Xiaomi has changed the box design; now it comes in red and white, with the device model printed in large capital letters. On the sides of the box, you can see the smartphone’s specs, the model number, and the operating system. What’s inside the box? The first thing you see is the eject tool for removing the dual-SIM tray, followed by the manual, the Xiaomi warranty, a very flexible matte black protective case, the phone, and the charger with its cable. Since the plug is European, the store gave me an adapter.

The color is titanium gray; it looks like light gold. It has an elegant, slim design, is just 7.96 mm thick, and weighs 210 grams—it feels very light in the hand. The screen measures 6.83 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 2772 x 1280 pixels; it’s spectacular, and the colors look gorgeous. The maximum brightness is 3,200 nits with AMOLED technology—this works great for me because I don’t have to struggle with the sun to see the screen; before, I used to take photos blindly, which was very annoying. Although the finish looks metallic, it’s made of plastic—specifically, polycarbonate and high-strength plastic—and it doesn’t feel cheap at all to the touch. The camera module is located on the back. On the right side are the volume controls and the power button; on the bottom are the SIM card slot, a stereo speaker, a microphone, and a USB-C port. On the bottom edge is another stereo speaker and an infrared sensor for controlling the TV and air conditioner.

It features Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which offers high protection against drops onto hard and rough surfaces. It can withstand drops from up to 2 meters high; if we happen to drop it by accident, we won’t have to worry about a cracked screen or damage to the touchscreen functionality—though, if possible, I’d prefer it not to fall, hehe. Not only is the screen durable, but it also has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications for water and dust resistance. It withstands hot water, pressurized water, and splashes, and it’s also submersible up to 2.5 meters for 30 minutes—in fresh water only. When I mentioned this to a coworker, he said, “So that means I can go swimming in the river with it.” I replied, “Why would you go swimming in the river with your phone, haha?” It’s just in case it falls into a ditch, gets a little wet in the rain, you pick it up with wet hands, or it falls into a pool—nothing will happen. Just don’t slam it on the ground or keep it soaking wet—don’t confuse the meaning of these certifications.

It came with Android 15 and the Xiaomi HyperOS 2 interface and has been heavily criticized for this; however, after just three days of use, it prompted me to update to Android 16 with the Xiaomi HyperOS 3 interface. It has 256 GB of internal storage and 8 GB of physical RAM, which is said to be expandable up to 12 GB. I need to look into this further—if it’s used to make the phone run more smoothly, it limits the internal storage, as it’s essentially virtual RAM. The processor is a 4-nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400-Ultra. People had recommended the Snapdragon to me because it’s supposedly superior; however, my budget didn’t stretch far enough to buy its bigger brother, the Plus version.

For me, improving photo quality is a key requirement because of my job and the posts I make on Hive. The main camera is 200 MP, it has another 8 MP wide-angle camera, and the front-facing camera is 20 MP. I expected more from the zoom—it goes up to 4x—but I think it’s really good; you can zoom in up to 30x, though I haven’t tried that yet. I haven’t used the camera much—just the basics for work—and the photos look great. While taking photos, I came across a short-video feature that can be turned on and off; it’s called “Live Moments” or “Dynamic Photos.” I activated it by mistake, and my boss was thrilled with “the videos,” though I didn’t understand which ones he was referring to. I like using the zoom for macro photography—I’ve tried it a few times. I haven’t recorded any videos yet either; it records in 4K and in Full HD with the front-facing camera. The camera also lets you scan documents, so you probably won’t need to download an app for that. Here are a few photos I took.

The standout feature of this mid-range Xiaomi smartphone is its 6,580 mAh carbon-silicon battery, a new technology that has replaced lithium batteries. These batteries store more energy without taking up more space, which is why this Redmi is slim despite housing a high-capacity battery. At first, having a large battery seemed very appealing to me, but in actual use, the battery life wasn’t what I expected. A 9% drop overnight surprised me in the morning. I was about to return the phone, which is still under warranty—they gave me a one-month warranty period. I started looking into it, but first I stopped by the store; the guy who sold me the phone blamed it on the update from Android 15 to Android 16, but I wasn’t satisfied with that explanation.

After watching some tutorials, I disabled background apps, printer search, ads, and the always-on display, among other things, and yes, the battery life improved significantly—now the battery really is what they describe as its biggest selling point. The factory settings were draining the battery a lot; I remember that with the Redmi 9, I didn’t configure these features and the battery lasted forever. Obviously, as technology advances, there are greater demands on the battery. By the way, the charger is 45W (fast charging)—its ability to handle the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G’s massive battery has been heavily criticized. To me, it seems to charge quickly; maybe I just don’t know much about technology or I’m not very demanding, hehe. As an added bonus, this battery doubles as a power bank (I haven’t used this feature yet)—in other words, it’s reversible and can charge other devices, either via cable or wirelessly. You just place the device on the back cover of the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G’s battery.

It has Wi-Fi 6.0, Bluetooth 5.4, connects to 5G (I used it recently), and has NFC—oh, and an infrared port for controlling home appliances.

I haven't explored the smartphone much in these three weeks of use, but I've seen that it has good performance, plus a ton of features that I'll discover on my own and by watching tutorials. For my work needs, it works great—for now, it's exactly what I need. I'm not a gamer, so this purchase might not be the best fit for more demanding users. On the downside, I’d mention the pre-installed apps that I don’t use and that take up space, the ads, and the fact that it doesn’t have a microSD card slot, so you can’t expand the storage. With that photo resolution, the 256 GB might not be quite enough for people who take a lot of photos.

It doesn't have a headphone jack, so you can only use Bluetooth headphones—a drawback when it comes to battery life; if you love listening to music, it'll cut into your battery life. At first, it got really hot, which worried me, but that was due to the factory settings I disabled, which were obviously putting a lot of strain on both the processor and the camera. Remember those short videos my boss loved? We were out for several hours straight in the sun, but I was just taking regular photos. One thing I miss about my Redmi 9 is the automatic beauty mode for photos. Now let’s highlight the positives: OTG functionality, dual-space customization for kids—it’s like having two phones in one. You can set it up so that kids can only see what you’ve allowed in the customization settings. The volume can be adjusted up to 400%, which is ideal for open, noisy spaces.

Saludos estimados amigos de Geek Zone, hoy estoy de vuelta en esta maravillosa comunidad después de un montón de tiempo, pero realmente no había realizado compras tecnológicas desde la última vez que estuve por estos lados tech. Estaba pendiente la compra de un nuevo teléfono porque ya el mío estaba pidiendo auxilio desesperadamente. Entre tantos modelos no sabía que comprar, solo tenía claro que sería de la serie Xiaomi porque mi Redmi 9 me salió muy bueno. Un amigo me recomendó esta marca en tiempos de pandemia y le hice caso, tenía razón. Mi Redmi 9 tiene ya 5 años y medio, está intacto físicamente, a excepción de una pequeña mancha verde que recientemente le salió en el lado izquierdo de la pantalla, supongo que por las caídas. La batería funciona muy bien, en principio, los 5020 mAh me duraban dos días, pero lógicamente esto ha disminuido con el tiempo, sin embargo, tiene buen redimiento.

Porque compré otro teléfono si todo está bien?, no compré un nuevo dispositivo porque ya redmi 9 está viejo y feo, es que comenzaron los problemas de funcionamiento. Se quedaba colgado, el almacenamiento estaba lleno, se trababa, el sistema no respondía, whatsApp, galería, todo, de pronto el mensaje de “no responde” se hizo frecuente. Yo trabajo con el teléfono en mi empleo principal, las fotos son esenciales, y por supuesto, también publico en Hive. Además de esos fallos, el teléfono comenzó a reiniciarse, en principio al ver videos y escuchar audios en WhatsApp, después tras cual actividad.

Para hacer el cuento corto, me quedé sin teléfono varios días, pero antes, salvé algunas fotos para publicar en Hive. Buscando tutoriales seguí la recomendación de actualizar el Android porque esto podría resolver el problema, sin embargo, durante el reinicio se quedó colgado. Luego reaccionó, casi me mata de un susto, no obstante, el problema persistió. En un servicio técnico me dijeron que la memoria causaba los reinicios y que podía ser la batería. Me volví loca salvado las fotos pasándola a la memoria micro SD en un instante que el teléfono se quedó estable. La verdadera falla la encontraron en una tienda llamada Canguro, la batería tenía una resistencia dañada que provocaba los reinicios constantes, además de convertirse en una tortura encender el móvil, era algo así como un corto. Cuando la batería requería exigencia por videos y otras funciones de envergadura no lo soportaba y el teléfono se apagaba o se reiniciaba. Quedó arreglado, sin embargo, no es rápido, para ayudar liberé memoria y aun así a veces aparece el mensaje “tal app o chrome no responde”, así que no pospuse más comprar un nuevo teléfono. Por si fuera poco, un día amaneció que no recibía carga, que estrés, pensé que era el pin de carga, pero hice una prueba y resultó ser el cable que enseguida reemplacé.

La Buena noticia es que logré salvar fotos de mi trabajo y para las publicaciones en Hive. Además de la poca memoria, siempre me quejé de la resolución LCD IPS de la pantalla que en exteriores es muy mala y sufría mucho para ver mensajes, leerlos y tomar fotos. Después de 4GB de RAM y 64 GB de memoria ROM, lo lógico e ideal es adquirir un Smartphone de tecnología superior. Quería el Redmi Note 15, pero al final, adquirí después de mucho buscar y analizar el Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G. El teléfono en mi opinión no es económico, me costó 472$, no obstante, para las prestaciones que posee, es económico en comparación a otras marcas.

Cuando fui a la tienda DLR, estaba en exhibición, era el único modelo de 8GB de RAM y 256GB de almacenamiento interno que tenían disponible, el otro que quedaba era la versión de 512GB de memoria ROM y en color negro, mi presupuesto me dio para la primera opción. La caja no estaba sellada obviamente por lo que ya expliqué, me llevé el último que estaba en la tienda. Xiaomi cambió el diseño de la caja, ahora la encontramos en colores rojo y blanco, el modelo del dispositivo va en letras mayúsculas grandes. En los laterales de la caja vemos las características del Smartphone, el modelo y el sistema operativo. Que trae la caja?, lo primero que vemos es la herramienta eyectora para extraer la bandeja doble SIM, luego el manual, la garantía de Xiaomi, una funda protectora negro mate muy flexible, el teléfono y el cargador con su cable. Como el enchufe es europeo, en la tienda me entregaron un convertidor.

El color es gris titanio, se ve como si fuera dorado claro, de diseño elegante y delgado, apenas 7,96 mm de espesor y pesa 210 grs, se siente muy liviano en la mano. La pantalla mide en diagonal 6,83 pulgadas, con una resolución de 2772 x 1280 píxeles, es espectacular, los colores se ven preciosos. El brillo máximo es de 3200 nits con tecnología Amoled, esto me va genial porque no tengo que luchar con el sol para ver a pantalla, antes tomaba las fotos a ciegas, resultaba muy molesto. Aunque el acabado se ve como metalizado, está fabricado en plástico, policarbonato/plástico de alta resistencia, no se siente barato en lo absoluto al tacto. En la parte posterior se encuentra el apartado de cámaras. En el lateral derecho se encuentran el control de volumen, botón de encendido y apagado, en la parte inferior, la entrada para la tarjeta SIM, altavoz con sonido estéreo, micrófono y puerto USB-C. En el borde inferior se encuentra otro altavoz con sonido estéreo y un sensor infrarrojo para control de TV y aire acondicionado.

Cuenta con Gorilla Glass Victus 2 que ofrece alta protección a caídas sobre superficies duras y rugosas. Puede resistir caídas de hasta 2 metros de alto, si se nos llega a caer por accidente, no se sufre por partidas de pantalla y daños de la función táctil, no obstante, en lo posible prefiero que no se caiga, jeje. No solo la pantalla es resistente, posee certificaciones IP66, IP68, IP69 e IP69K, contra agua y polvo. Resiste agua caliente, a presión, salpicaduras y además es sumergible hasta 2,5 metros por 30 minutos, solo en agua dulce. Cuando se lo comenté a un compañero de trabajo, me dijo “es decir que me puedo bañar en el río con el”, yo le contesté “para que bañarse en el río con el celular, jaja”, eso es por si cae en una cuneta, se moje un poco en la lluvia, lo tomes con las manos mojadas o que se caiga en una piscina, no pasa nada. Nada de golpearlo contra el suelo y estarlo mojando, no hay que confundir el uso de las certificaciones.

Vino con Android 15, interfaz Xiaomi HyperOS 2 y ha sido muy criticado por esto, sin embargo, a apenas con tres días de uso me pidió actualización a Android 16 interfaz Xiaomi HyperOS 3. El almacenamiento interno es de 256Gb, mientras que la memoria RAM física es de 8 GB, dice expandible hasta 12 GB, de esto debo investigar más, si se usa para darle más fluidez al teléfono, restringe el almacenamiento interno, es una memoria RAM virtual. El procesador es MediaTek Dimensity 7400-Ultra de 4 nm, me habían recomendado el Snapdragon, porque ser superior, no obstante, mi presupuesto no llegó para adquirir a su hermano mayor, la versión plus.

La idea de mejorar la calidad de las fotos, para mí es un requisito importante por mi trabajo y por las publicaciones que hago en Hive. La cámara principal es de 200mp, posee otra gran angular de 8 mp y la frontal es de 20 mp. Esperaba más del Zoom, llega hasta 4x, pero me parece muy bueno, se puede ampliar hasta 30x, no lo he probado aún. He usado poco la cámara, lo básico por trabajo, las fotos se ven muy bien, me encontré con una función de video corto durante la toma de fotos que se puede activar y desactivar, la función de llama “momentos en vivo” o “fotos dinámicas”, lo accioné por error y mi jefe quedó encantado con “los videos” y yo no entendía cuáles. Me gusta usar el zoom para la macrofotografía, hice unos intentos. Tampoco he grabado videos, lo hace en formato 4k y con la cámara frontal en Full HD. La cámara también permite escanear documentos y es muy probable que no sea necesario descargar una aplicación que haga esta función. Aquí les muestro algunas fotos.

Este el fuerte de este Smartphone de la gama media de Xiaomi, es de 6580 mAh de silicio de carbono, una nueva tecnología que ha desplazado a las baterías de litio. Estas almacenan más energía sin aumentar el espacio, es por ello que este Redmi es delgado pese a estar albergando a una batería de gran capacidad. En principio contar con una gran batería me resultó muy atractivo, pero durante el uso la durabilidad no fue la esperada. Una caída del 9% durante la noche me sorprendió en la mañana. Estuve a punto de devolver el teléfono que aún a esta fecha está en garantía, me dieron un mes. Me puse a investigar, pero antes pasé por la tienda, el chico que me vendió el teléfono le echó la culpa a la actualización de Android 15 a Android 16, pero no me quedé con esa explicación.

Viendo tutoriales desactivé aplicaciones en segundo plano, búsqueda de impresoras, publicidad, pantalla activa, entre otras, y sí, la autonomía mejoró mucho, ahora sí es la batería que describen como su mayor atractivo. Las configuraciones de fábricas estaban consumiendo mucha batería, recuerdo que con Redmi 9 no configuré estas funciones y la batería me duraba un montón, obvio, mientras más avanza la tecnología, hay mayor exigencia para la batería. Por cierto, el cargador es de 45W (carga rápida), muy criticada su capacidad para la batería monstruo del Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, a mí me parece que lo carga rápido, a lo mejor es que no sé mucho de tecnología o no soy muy exigente, jeje. Como plus adicional, esta batería sirve como Power Bank (no he usado esta función), es decir, es reversible, puede cagar otros dispositivos, bien sea por cable o de manera inalámbrica. Solo se coloca el dispositivo sobre la cubierta trasera de la batería del Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G.

El Wifi es de 6.0, el Bluetooth es de versión 5.4, se conecta a 5G (la usé hace poco) y cuenta con NFC, ah y el infrarrojo para el control de electrodomésticos.

He explorado poco el Smartphone en estas 3 semanas de uso y he visto que tiene buenas prestaciones, además de un montón de funciones que iré descubriendo por mi misma y viendo tutoriales. Por exigencia de mi trabajo me va genial, por ahora es lo que necesito, no soy gamer, así que esta compra quizás no le resulte tan buena a usuarios tan exigentes. Entre las cosas negativas puedo mencionar las aplicaciones preinstaladas que no se usan y ocupan espacio, la publicidad, no trae ranura para la memoria micro SD, así que no se puede expandir. Con esa resolución en las fotos y para quienes hacen muchas capturas los 256GB se pueden quedar algo cortos.

No trae entrada para conectar audífonos, solo se podrán utilizar con Bluetooth, una desventaja frente al uso de la batería, si eres fan de escuchar música le restará autonomía. En principio se calentaba mucho, eso me preocupaba, pero se debía a las configuraciones de fábrica que desactivé y que obviamente le exigían tanto al procesador como a la cámara. Se acuerdan de los videos cortos que le fascinaron a mi jefe?, fueron varias horas continuas y bajo el sol, pero yo y que estaba tomando fotos normales. Algo que extraño de mi Redmi 9 es el modo belleza automático en las fotos. Ahora vamos a resaltar lo positivo, función OTG, doble espacio de personalización para los niños, es como tener dos teléfonos en uno, se puede configurar para que los niños solo puedan ver lo que hayamos establecido en la personalización. El Volumen se puede ajustar hasta el 400%, ideal para espacios abiertos y ruidosos.

Esta ha sido mi reseña, esperando que le haya sido útil si quieren adquirir este dispositivo o irse por uno superior, al igual que el fallo que le sucedió a mi antiguo smartphone, si les pasa, ya saben que puede tener arreglo, aunque no lo parezca. Hasta la próxima.
