"Hmmm, so it's #FungiFriday, but I haven't seen any mushroom lately," that was just me talking to myself while preparing my bowl of cereal.
The hubby stepped out of the house without a word. "Fungi? There's one here, under the crate," he said after a while. Oh, so he heard me! I thought no one was listening😁
I left my bowl and headed outside to check if he wasn't joking. The crate he was talking about was on a cemented ground, so how would fungi grow under it? But look!
I forgot there was a small plank of decaying board under it. A perfect habitat for small bonnet mushrooms. I was to leave after taking pictures when my eye caught two more. Carefully lifting the crate, I pulled the wood out and voila!
Google Lens identified them belonging to the Mycena species or similar group of tiny fungi which grows on rotting wood.
Anyway, I played with them a bit, taking the wood to a brighter spot for a few more shots. My phone's degrading camera isn't doing their beauty any justice, or maybe it's just me not really knowing how to take better photos🫠
Here's a look at the underside of the umbrella-shaped cap with thin, crowded whitish to pinkish gills. The thin slender stem appears bigger and shorter than it really is.
Oops, I spent a bit more time than I anticipated, but I couldn't help it. It had been a really long time since my last participation in Ewkaw's initiative and I was just chuffed to have something today, thanks to the hubby😊 Sometimes, it doesn't hurt to speak our thoughts loudly.
