[TV] Carrie🎬

Fellow cinephiles, it’s a new week to keep sharing reviews! I’ve just finished a new series—honestly, it’s not the type of story I’m usually drawn to, but it piqued my curiosity. Although it was a bit of a struggle to get through, I finally finished the last few episodes yesterday. I’m talking about the well-known story of Carrie White.

🎥 Carrie 🎥

Synopsis:

Carrie White is an ostracized high school student who has spent her entire life confined within the four walls of her home with her mother, Margaret. Following the sudden and premature death of her father, she is forced to venture out and navigate the unforgiving ecosystem of a public high school. There, she must confront a bullying scandal that ripples through the entire community, the relentless pressure and callous cruelty of the social media age, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers that surface alongside her adolescence.

Comments and Opinion.

The story hooks you from the very first chapter—there’s no doubt about that. It follows a disoriented, shy young woman who has never left home and is unfamiliar with many things—including technology, but above all, the cruelty this society is capable of. She tries to fit in, but as I mentioned, the harsh reality of adolescent malice—bullies and immature kids who think they’re all that—makes it far from easy; they strip away one’s innocence and peace. That is my takeaway from this story, and it helps explain how things reached that final, tragic outcome.

As for the series itself, it wasn’t bad, though it did feel overly drawn out. They added extra episodes to build up excitement and tension leading to the finale, but I must confess that the ending was a bit disappointing—that part felt too rushed. I was left wanting more; given that this is supposed to be a horror story, that was precisely what it lacked most.

I really liked the portrayal of Carrie’s mother—it was a very well-acted role. She was an overprotective mother who offered wise words intended to raise awareness; had the other parents listened to her, that horror and tragedy never would have occurred. Instead, they chose to reward their children by allowing them to hold their graduation party, rather than punishing them as they deserved.

While it’s true that one person set everything in motion, in the end, everyone was complicit. They all got swept up in the mockery and the viral nature of social media—but I won’t go into further detail, in case there are those who aren’t familiar with the story.

Conclusions:

Without a doubt, Carrie is a story worth analyzing, but this series fell short in terms of the horror elements we all expected to see. Even so, it’s still worth a watch—it consists of 8 entertaining episodes—and, from what I gather, this isn’t the end; there will be another season, so let’s see how things unfold.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to give it a try and let me know what you think. Until next time!
