Greetings, dear community! There is a saying that the shoemaker’s children go barefoot, and I think that applies to me; although I’ve made amigurumis for my son to play with since he was very little, I had never made one for him to use as a keychain or bag charm. Consequently, he hadn’t taken one to school since he started. I realized this is his last year of primary school and that his backpack looked a bit plain—he stopped using backpacks with designs and now uses a solid blue one—so I decided to make him a personalized keychain featuring his initial and a little superhero. He loved it! 😊

Proceso / Process

At first, I looked for crochet letter patterns, but none suited my needs—specifically, they were for flat, unstuffed letters or were simply too large. So, I decided to create my own design tailored to the materials I was using: a double strand of fine acrylic yarn and a size 0 crochet hook.

I started from the top down with a foundation chain of 9 and worked 9 single crochet stitches in the first row. Then, I worked 4 more rows, increasing on the left side to reach a total of 12 stitches. I continued working only the 4 stitches on the right side for five rows, then picked up 4 single crochet stitches on the left side; I worked two rows increasing on the left and decreasing on the right, followed by two rows doing the reverse. Next, I worked a row with 3 chains in the center to join the sections and made 12 single crochet stitches. I worked three rows with decreases on the right side to reduce the count to 9, then continued with the 4 stitches on the right for ten rows. Finally, I picked up the 4 stitches on the other side and worked five rows with increases and decreases at the corners to create an angle, followed by five rows worked straight.

I made two identical letters and joined them along the edges with rows of single crochet stitches, stuffed them, and then worked a row of single crochet stitches to close the center.

For Captain America’s head, I worked 6 single crochets into a ring, 6 increases for three rounds, 24 single crochets for seven rounds, and 3 decreases for three rounds, stuffing it before closing.

For the helmet, I worked 6 single crochet stitches into a magic ring, followed by 6 increases for three rows, then 2 increases in the next row, and 26 single crochet stitches for four rows; for the holes, I chained 6 and skipped 4 stitches, then worked slip stitches over the chains in the following row; I used white yarn to add details to the sides and embroidered the letter A in the center.
