I went from an overwhelming storm — cold and painful, which left mud everywhere — to finding myself falling more often than I’d like whilst walking. But instead of crying, grumbling and stamping my feet, I set about moulding figures out of that mud, eagerly waiting for it to dry in the sun. That very same sun that finally rose on the horizon, leaving behind a winter that seemed endless to make way for spring, which is already making itself subtly felt.

But human beings aren’t made solely of water and mud; we hold within us the elements and that intuition which, although sometimes not fully developed, dwells in each of us. On this occasion, our friend @damarysvibra takes us into the warmth of the fire 🔥 and invites us to reflect on the emotion, sensation and perception it evokes.

Many fear it, myself included — and it would be naive not to — as in a matter of minutes it can ravage and destroy. That is the main driver of the instant fear we feel upon hearing the word ‘fire’, when in reality it holds more meanings than we have ever stopped to consider.

@damarysvibra’s post in the @holos-lotus community is an open invitation to explore this element on a personal level, in which she states that fire is the initial spark of everything. It is here that exquisite analogies are born – the sort that speak to the reader in a gentle yet compelling way; a cry of life that whispers in your ear: ‘I can… I could… you can’.

For many years, fire has also been a symbol of purification; an indispensable element in rituals of energetic cleansing where the past is burned away to make way for the future. That same fire has been a silent witness to heart-rending tears over betrayals and to misdirected fury. By this I mean that, at the end of the day, every individual on this plane gives their own flame a different focus and purpose.

At this point, having recognised fire as a means of purifying sorrows — whilst at the same time harbouring a respectful fear of it — I found a far more valuable meaning in my own story; one that came to me six years ago through someone I barely knew.

At that time, when my health was failing and my physical and mental strength were crumbling like a house of cards, my former boss, Doña Patricia, said to me in a supermarket aisle:

‘Don’t see your husband’s illness right now as something bad; it is nothing more than the inner fire incinerating your husband’s old feathers, not to destroy him, but to renew him. Sooner rather than later, you will see the phoenix fly proudly and strongly in your home.’

Her words cut so deeply into my heart that from that day on I longed for that fire. I longed for it to finally burn away the old feathers to reveal the new plumage… and so it happened. It was so in the past, and it has been so in the present, where our phoenix once again burned its feathers to shed its grudges, learning to accept others without seeking to change their personalities, simply being happy with however much or little life has to offer.

This fire — which this time seemed reluctant to ignite on the wood soaked by that relentless storm — finally blazed with vigour. It reveals how the old feathers fall amidst the tears, yet it is a fire that finally brings warmth, heralding that the phoenix will laugh once more.

In this sense, the fire is not a symbol of pain, destruction and uncertainty; rather, it is the warmth of feeling that everything is calming down and that the bone-chilling cold is receding in the face of its warm embrace.

1000042174.png

With every step he manages to take—and we, his family, walking in his footsteps—we feel the flames on his wings die down. Down there, gleaming and warm, the new feathers are revealed: stronger to face life and wiser to accept what was once not understood.

Fire is leaving the bad behind, learning along the way, and embracing the warmth with such strength and passion that the inner flame intertwines with that of the universe, forging a fire that never goes out.

Saludos.
