Hello to the entire Hive Book Club community! 📚✨
It’s a great pleasure to greet you again and share with you another step on this creative and literary journey.
In my previous post, I shared my experience with The Emperor’s New Clothes, a phase in which I delved into the fascinating concept of transtextuality through intertextual relationships. That process was key, as it led to our first production with our puppet theater.
The Emperor, The Sage, and The Prime Minister
From there, I decided to take it a step further and embark on a new project on my own—a new challenge. I once again turned to a classic by Hans Christian Andersen to undertake a creative exercise with the story The Beautiful Nightingale.
To tackle this project, I drew on the lessons and experiences from the previous production. Reflecting on what I’d done with The Emperor’s New Clothes helped me develop new skills and anticipate the various challenges that often arise when working with intertextuality. And the results were truly rewarding! That’s how my version of The Beautiful Nightingale came to be—this time, the result of my work alone.

It was an enriching experience that inspired me to continue studying and researching everything related to transtextuality, always with the hope of tackling future projects. Although my initial desire was to bring this production to the stage with the puppet theater group, it ultimately wasn’t possible. However, the group continued on its path with other projects and plays that were very successful.
The Selfish Giant and the Birds
The Selfish Giant: Children's Book
This journey of exploration didn’t end there: later on, I mustered the courage to take on another theatrical and intertextual challenge, staging an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant.
What does the Hive community think about the possibility of creating intertextual theatrical adaptations of classic fairy tales? Which of these works by Andersen or Wilde is your favorite? I look forward to reading your comments!
