A Night in My True City!

I don’t know at what point in my life the things that were once part of my daily routine turned into a luxury that now fills me with such nostalgia... Yes, I’ve written here on my blog several times that, at this stage of my life, I prefer the city where I currently live, for many reasons, and I’ve even complained about life in my hometown; yet, I never intended to drift away from it to the extent I have today. Somewhere along the last three years, visiting my city and seeing my family or friends has become a difficult task. Life has already been complicated enough, especially this year, to the point where my vacation expectations fell short; what I thought would be a long stretch of time with my loved ones has been reduced to just a single post featuring photos from one night.

I took these photographs at Plaza Bolívar in Maracay, in the Venezuelan state of Aragua. The first 25 years of my life held great significance for me; I grew up as part of a happy family, and my childhood and adolescence unfolded near this square. This area is home to the schools my brother and I attended, the companies where my parents worked, the music center where I trained, the theater where a family member used to perform, and the district where we used to go shopping. Everything I did before moving to Caracas was centered around downtown Maracay and Plaza Bolívar, a place I visited practically every day, whereas now, getting there requires a trip of at least an hour and a half.

I don’t even know how I ended up here; it wasn’t planned. Yesterday was a day packed with errands, after all, I only had one day available to get everything done. It was actually a difficult day; things kept going wrong or getting cancelled, one after another. Yet, I didn’t let myself give in to negativity; instead, I decided to go out with my mom. Without even planning it, we ended up sharing a beautiful, unexpected afternoon of walking and conversation. As evening fell, we were walking through the city center, amidst the pitch-black darkness Maracay is experiencing these days due to power outages. My mom was happy with the new gift I’d given her, and I was carrying a guitar in the heaviest case imaginable, but we were happy simply because we were together. Then, as if by magic, Plaza Bolívar drew us in; without realizing it, after hours of walking, we found ourselves there. It was the only place that inspired me to take photos on such a hectic day.

I didn't get to see the people I wanted to see, though, of course, this won't be the last time I visit my true home city, but it does make me nostalgic to realize just how complicated it has become to simply spend time with family back home. Like any loving mother, she decided to go out with me, even if it was just to run errands; naturally, we deserved a delicious dinner and a pleasant stroll at the end of the day. And while this plaza might not be the absolute best Maracay has to offer, it’s a place that fills me with nostalgia, a spot where I could chat with her for hours beneath a beautiful navy, blue sky and the cool shade of the trees. Without even trying, I ended up having the best walk I’ve had in a long time, and I got some lovely photos to share here. No sé en qué momento de mi vida lo que era cotidiano para mí se convirtió prácticamente en un lujo que siempre me llena de mucha nostalgia... Sí, he escrito varias veces aquí en mi blog que en este momento de mi vida prefiero la ciudad donde vivo ahora, por muchos motivos, y muchas veces hasta me he quejado de la vida en mi ciudad natal, pero mi intensión nunca fue desprenderme de ella hasta el punto al cual he llegado hoy. En alguna parte de los últimos tres años, visitar mi ciudad y visitar a mi familia o mis amigos se ha convertido en una tarea difícil, y ya de por sí la vida ha estado algo complicada, especialmente este año, es tanto que mis expectativas vacacionales no estuvieron a la altura, y de lo que pensé que sería un largo tiempo con mi gente querida, ha sido resumido a solo un post de fotografías de una noche...

Estas fotografías las tomé en la Plaza Bolívar de Maracay, Estado Aragua de Venezuela. Los primeros 25 años de mi vida significó mucho para mí, y mi vida como niño y adolescente de una familia feliz transcurrió cerca de esta plaza. En esta zona están los colegios donde mi hermano y yo estudiamos, están las empresas donde mis padres trabajaron, está la sede musical donde me formé, el teatro donde alguien de mi familia solía tener concierto y la zona donde solíamos ir a comprar. Todo lo que hacía en mi vida antes de Caracas está cerca del centro de Maracay y de la Plaza Bolívar, así que este era un lugar que visitaba prácticamente a diario, y ahora significa un viaje de al menos hora y media para mí.

Ni siquiera sé cómo llegué hasta aquí, no fue planificado. Ayer fue un día de muchas diligencias, después de todo solo tendría un día disponible para hacer todo lo que tenía pendiente. De hecho fue un día complicado, muchas cosas salieron al revés o se cancelaron, una tras otra, pero no me permití caer en sentimientos negativos, al contrario, decidí salir con mi mamá, y sin querer terminamos teniendo una tarde muy hermosa e inesperada de compartir y caminatas. Sí, especialmente al caer la tarde estábamos caminando por el centro de la ciudad, casi en la oscuridad extrema que vive Maracay en estos días de apagones; mi mamá iba feliz con su nuevo obsequio de mi parte y yo con la guitarra del estuche más pesado que se puedan imaginar, pero felices porque estábamos juntos, y mágicamente la Plaza Bolívar nos atrajo, porque sin darnos cuenta, y luego de horas caminando estábamos ahí, el único lugar que me inspiró para tomar fotografías en este día tan ajetreado.

No pude ver a las personas que quería ver, pero claro, tampoco es la última vez que visitaré mi verdadera ciudad en el mundo, pero sí me causa nostalgia notar lo complicado que se ha vuelto hasta pasar un tiempo en familia en mi propio hogar. Como toda madre amorosa, ella decidió salir conmigo, así sea solo a hacer diligencias, obviamente al final del día nos merecíamos cenar delicioso y caminar un rato por lugares agradables, y aunque esta plaza quizás no sea lo mejor que Maracay tiene para ofrecer, es un lugar que me llena de nostalgia y donde pude charlar con ella por horas, bajo un hermoso cielo azul marino y la frescura de los árboles. Sin querer, tuve la mejor caminata en mucho tiempo, y obtuve fotos bonitas para compartir aquí. Gracias a todos los que leen y apoyan, un sincero abrazo para ti que me lees...
