Altamira is a very beautiful area in the Chacao Municipality of Miranda State, which is also part of Venezuela’s Capital District. Although I once worked in this area, I now live far from Altamira; this makes me appreciate every trip to Chacao, and lately, I’ve been able to visit several times a month for various reasons. The urban landscapes are truly special and inspire me to take all sorts of photographs, including shots of Altamira’s Plaza Francia, a place I’ve already written about in a couple of past posts.
The area is defined by the Luis Roche and Don Bosco avenues, which climb toward the foot of the imposing El Ávila mountain. On this occasion, I walked up one of them and back down the other, entirely by choice. I had some errands to run, but I also had some free time, and I truly enjoyed the walk through Altamira. In fact, the last time I was here, I discovered the damage left behind by earthquakes in this part of the Chacao Municipality; this time, however, I focused solely on enjoying the area’s beauty and all the wonderful things it has to offer, all while in the company of my wife.
As part of the Venezuelan capital, much like any other capital city, this area boasts significant industrial development, striking architecture, works of art on every corner, green spaces, and hotels across a range of categories. It is also home to the trailhead for one of the most popular paths up El Ávila: the route to Sabas Nieves. This municipality, and this specific sector in particular, truly has it all. I thoroughly enjoy visiting, yet I’m also glad not to live here; for me, it remains a place I associate with leisure and enjoyment.
In general, the climate throughout the city is cool and pleasant all year round; however, as you are likely aware, climate shifts are currently having a significant impact on Caracas. The area remains quite breezy, with an atmosphere typical of a location at the foot of the mountains, especially the closer you get to El Ávila, but it was indeed hot that day, even though we arrived early. That said, it is still perfectly possible to enjoy the facilities at Plaza Francia, which tends to be the busiest spot under the sun, and if you have the stamina, I would recommend walking up and down the main avenues; you won’t necessarily end up feeling stifled by the heat.
I wanted to include a section focusing on the flowers found in the area, though I didn’t take many photos of them, to highlight that this is one of the most flower-filled parts of all of Caracas. It’s true that in the city center, you don’t typically see such a wide variety or abundance of flowers on every corner; however, in the Chacao municipality, especially away from the main avenues that run along Line 1 of the Caracas Metro, you can discover many beautiful details, including the lush vegetation and its blossoms. For many, this is an everyday setting, but for those of us who visit only occasionally, it serves as a sanctuary of grandeur, peace, and beauty. I hope you enjoyed these images, which serve as a small tribute to the Altamira area; if I return, I’ll be sure to bring back some new shots for you all. Sending a warm embrace to everyone reading!...
