I think we all know or have heard of Michael Jackson's Thriller, an album that has held the title of Best-Selling Album of All Time since I was a kid, and today, at 38, it still holds that record. It's still popular and still has a huge sales gap compared to the second best-selling album of all time (which is the Eagles' Greatest Hits). For this reason, and for those who aren't yet familiar with it, I wanted to write my own review, not only because of the excellent film about Michael's life currently in theaters, but also because of my newfound passion for playing music through Scrobble.Life.
First Single: The Girl Is Mine
Creo que todos conocemos o hemos escuchado sobre Thriller de Michael Jackson, un álbum que ha tenido el título de ser El Más Vendido de Todos los Tiempos desde que yo era niño, y hoy a mis 38 años sigue teniendo ese récord, sigue estando de moda y sigue teniendo demasiada diferencia de ventas respecto al segundo álbum más vendido de todos los tiempos (que son los grandes éxitos de Eagles). Por este motivo, y para quienes aún no están familiarizados quise hacer mi propia reseña, y no solo por la excelente película que se está exhibiendo este año en cines sobre la biografía de Michael, sino también por la nueva pasión de reproducir música a través de Scrobble.Life.
Second Single: Billie Jean
The 2026 film Michael has revived the passion for Thriller, and 43 years later, practically all of its songs are popular, even competing with artists currently making waves, such as Ariana Grande's new album, Olivia Rodrigo, or Shakira's latest single, Dai Dai. At the time, Thriller had seven promotional singles, a landmark in the 80s, and its impact is even greater when you learn that this album only has nine tracks, so listening to it is a treat for good, familiar, and successful music. The first single was "The Girl Is Mine," a soft rock collaboration with his friend Paul McCartney, even incorporating some R&B, which still feels fresh and current in the 2020s. It reached number one on Billboard, demonstrating that at that time music videos weren't yet a significant part of the music industry, as it achieved massive success solely through radio airplay; but this would change with his second single: "Billie Jean."
Third Single: Beat It
La película Michael de 2026 ha revivido la pasión por Thriller, y ha logrado que 43 años después prácticamente todas sus canciones estén de moda, incluso compitiendo con artistas que están sonando justo ahora como el nuevo álbum de Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo o el último sencillo de Shakira, Dai Dai. En su momento, Thriller tuvo 7 sencillos promocionales, todo en hito en los 80's, y tiene más impacto cuando te enteras que este álbum solo posee 9 tracks, así que escucharlo es disfrutar de música buena, conocida y exitosa. El primer sencillo fue The Girl Is Mine, una colaboración junto a su amigo Paul McCartney de estilo soft rock, incluso con algo de R&B que aún en la década de los 2020's se siente muy fresco y actual. Fue número uno en Billboard, mostrando que en esos tiempos los videos musicales aún no eran parte importante de la industria musical, ya que alcanzó un éxito masivo solamente sonando en radios; pero esto cambiaría con su segundo sencillo: Billie Jean.
Fourth Single: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
I think everyone will agree with me that Billie Jean is one of the best songs in the world. There's nothing better than writing this paragraph while listening to its powerful bassline in my headphones, which, even after all these years, remains one of the best in terms of beats. This song remains the flagship track of Thriller, even though it was the second single. Unlike The Girl Is Mine, Billie Jean has a famous music video, which can proudly claim to be the first by a Black artist to be played on MTV. This not only boosted its popularity but also changed music history forever, establishing the music video as a staple of the music industry. Even today, Billie Jean is one of the most-watched videos on YouTube, and surprisingly, the quality isn't great; it's still in 480p. In fact, I'm calling on Michael Jackson's team to upload a remastered version, at least in 4K resolution.
Fifth Single: Human Nature
Creo que todos estarán de acuerdo conmigo en que Billie Jean es una de las mejores canciones del mundo. Nada mejor que escribir este párrafo mientras escucho la imponente melodía de su bajo en mis audífonos que aunque pasan los años sigue siendo uno de los mejores a destacar en beats. Esta canción sigue siendo la bandera de Thriller, aunque haya sido el segundo sencillo, pero a diferencia de The Girl Is Mine, Billie Jean sí tiene un famoso video musical, el cual puede darse el gusto de decir que fue el primero de un artista de color en ser reproducido en Mtv, y esto ayudó no solo a su popularidad, sino a cambiar la historia musical para siempre, donde el video que acompaña a una canción pasaría a ser el día a día de la industria musical. Justo hoy, Billie Jean es uno de los videos más reproducidos en Youtube, e impresionantemente no tiene buena calidad, aún se encuentra en formato 480p. De hecho, hago un llamado al equipo de trabajo de Michael Jackson para que se suba la versión remasterizada y al menos en definición 4K
Sixth Single: P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)
The single "Beat It" is a rock song with a danceable quality, something only the King of Pop could achieve. It perfectly demonstrates that Michael Jackson had a special voice for this musical genre, even though it wasn't his forte. He made a lot of music that highlights his growl skills, in addition to this song. The fourth single, "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," was released, the quintessential dance track and my favorite from this album. Here in this post, I've included the lyric video they uploaded to their YouTube channel three years ago, as well as the new music video for "Human Nature," the fifth single from Thriller. As I write this, I realize that in 2026 they released a music video that has garnered significant views, highlighting the fact that young people and dancers today continue to enjoy Michael Jackson's music, even though he passed away 17 years ago.
Seventh Single: Thriller
El sencillo Beat It es una canción rockera que tiene la habilidad de ser bailable, algo que solo el Rey del Pop podía lograr. Demuestra a perfección que Michael Jackson tenía una voz especial para este género musical, aunque no era su fuerte, pero hizo mucha música que resalta su habilidad en el Growl además de esta canción. Como cuarto sencillo se lanzó Wanna Be Startin' Somethin, la canción bailable por excelencia y mi preferida de este álbum. Acá en el post les dejo el video lyric que subieron a su canal de Youtube hace tres años, además del nuevo video musical de Human Nature, el quinto sencillo de Thriller y que hoy que escribo estas palabras me doy cuenta que este año 2026 han publicado un video musical que ha tenido buenas reproducciones y resalta el hecho de que los jóvenes y bailarines de hoy siguen disfrutando de la música de Michael Jackson, aunque él haya fallecido hace 17 años ya.
Baby Be Mine
P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) has always been one of my least favorite songs, but I still sing it at the top of my lungs when it comes on here at home. It's strange that I prefer other versions to the original, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the great gems of Thriller, although I should point out that this song was never played live; I wonder if Michael didn't like it that much either... Even so, its R&B sound is very catchy, as is its chorus, one of the best on the entire album. Immediately afterward, and as the last single, the title track, Thriller, was released, and I think we all know that unlike Billie Jean, what makes this hit timeless is its music video, which many still consider the best of all time. I really enjoy the times we're living in, where I can see Thriller on a giant screen in stunning quality; it was something I'd wanted for years, and as a fan of music videos, believe me, I watch it at least once a month.
The Lady In My Life
P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) siempre ha sido una de mis canciones menos preferidas, pero igual la canto a todo pulmón cuando suena aquí en casa. Algo extraño que me pasa es que prefiero otras versiones y no la original, peor no por eso deja de ser una de las grandes joyas de Thriller, aunque debo resaltar el hecho de que esta canción nunca fue tocada en vivo; me pregunto si a Michael tampoco le gustaba tanto... De igual manera su sonido R&B es muy pegajoso, al igual que su coro, uno de los mejores de todo el álbum. Inmediatamente, y como último single fue lanzada la canción que da título al álbum, Thriller, y creo que todos sabemos que a diferencia de Billie Jean, lo que hace eterno a este hit es su video musical, el cual muchos siguen considerando el mejor de todos los tiempos. Yo disfruto mucho de los tiempos que estamos viviendo, donde puedo ver Thriller en pantalla gigante con una calidad impresionante, fue algo que desee por años, y como fan de los videos musicales, créanme que lo veo al menos una vez al mes.
Billie Jean (Live Pasadena)
I left out the videos for the only two songs that weren't singles: "Baby Be Mine," with its rich post-disco sound that could easily be a single in the 2020s and reach the top of the charts, and "The Lady In My Life," a ballad that closes the album, leaving us relaxed after an experience that exhilarates us from beginning to end. In conclusion, Thriller is a must-listen for all music lovers, past, present, and future. You can't resist it; at some point in your life, it will reach you with its impressive beats and blend of R&B, ballads, rock, and post-disco, so excellent that it will fit into any musical era. The result is a perfect pop album accompanied by inspiring marketing, complete with dance tracks and music videos. If you haven't listened to it all the way through yet, you should... I give Michael Jackson's 1982 album, Thriller, a 9 out of 10. Personally, I think this album was made with so much passion to be the best album of all time that they possibly succeeded. The only reason I'm not giving it a perfect 10 is because some musical moments might not fit together perfectly, since it has several musical genres on a single album that's best categorized as a pop album, even though most of the songs are R&B and its biggest hits stand out as post-album material. Thriller (Live Wembley)
Dejé los videos de las únicas dos canciones que no fueron sencillos, Baby Be Mine, con un sonido post disco tan rico que podría ser sencillo en esta década de los 2020's y llegara los primeros puestos de popularidad, y The Lady In My Life, una balada que cierra el álbum para irnos relajados de una experiencia que nos sobre exalta de inicio a fin. En conclusión, Thriller es un álbum obligatorio para todos los amantes de la música que existen o existirán, no puedes resistirte a el, en algún momento de tu vida llegará a ti con sus impresionantes beats y mezcla entre R&B, baladas, rock y post disco hecho tan excelente que se acoplará a cualquier era musical, resultado un álbum pop perfecto que viene acompañado de un márquetin inspirador entre bailes y videos musicales. Sí aún no lo has escuchado completo debes hacerlo ya... A Thriller de Michael Jackson de 1982 le doy un 9 de 10. Personalmente opino que este trabajo se hizo con tanta pasión para que sea el mejor disco de todos los tiempos que posiblemente lo hayan logrado, y si no le doy un 10 completo es por tener momentos musicales que podrían no encajar a perfección, ya que tiene varios géneros musicales en un solo disco que es mejor catalogar como álbum pop, aunque la mayoría de sus canciones sean R&B y sus más grandes éxitos resalten como post disco. No me entienda mal, un 9 para mí es lo máximo.
