Twenty years ago, a younger version of myself was captivated by a dance-pop and nu-disco album at a time when that sound wasn't exactly dominating the charts. It wasn't just any album; it was Confessions on a Dance Floor by the Queen of Pop, Madonna. She was never my favorite artist—you know I’m Shakira’s number one fan—but given her fame and the massive success of the lead single "Hung Up," I couldn't resist listening to the full album. To this day, it remains one of my favorites thanks to its sound, sincerity, music videos, and even the world tour from that era. To our surprise, twenty years later, Madonna is still going strong and has had the privilege of releasing a sequel to what I consider the best album of her career. This new 2026 album is titled Confessions II.
Hace veinte años, una joven versión de mí se dejó embelesar con un álbum musical de género dance pop y nu-disco en una época donde ese sonido no era el más popular en las listas de éxitos. No era cualquier álbum, era Confessions On A Dance Floor de la Reina del Pop, Madonna. Ella nunca fue mi artista preferido, ya saben que soy el Fan Número 1 de Shakira, pero al no ser un personaje desconocido y con la gran aceptación que tuvo su primera canción promocional Hung Up, no pude resistirme a oír el álbum completo, y hasta hoy, es uno de mis preferidos por su sonido, sinceridad, videos musicales y hasta la gira mundial de conciertos de esa era de Madonna. Para nuestra sorpresa, veinte años después, Madonna aún se encuentra vigente y se ha dado el lujo de sacar una segunda parte del que considero el mejor disco de su carrera. Este nuevo álbum de 2026 se llama Confessions II.
I felt it was only right to finally listen to the full album—released on July 3rd of this year but skipped at the time due to the earthquakes in Venezuela. With the arrival of August, I finally turned my attention to the sequel of an album I had enjoyed so much during my late teens. To my surprise, it truly sounds like a continuation of the previous record, with few moments deviating from the original concept established two years ago. Dance-pop shines in all its glory, and Madonna narrates her confessions as the songs unfold—just as she did twenty years ago. It is worth highlighting every moment of Confessions II and comparing it to the previous album in the following review, track by track...
Sentí que era justo y necesario permitirme escuchar el álbum completo, el cual se publicó el 3 de Julio de este año y no escuché en su momento por motivos de los terremotos en Venezuela, pero con la llegada de Agosto finalmente me enfoqué en escuchar la secuela de un álbum que disfruté tanto en mis últimos años de adolescencia. Para mi sorpresa, realmente se escucha como la segunda parte del álbum anterior, ya que hay pocos momentos que suenan diferentes a la idea original de hace dos años. El pop dance brilla en todo su esplendor y Madonna va narrando sus confesiones a medida que transcurren las canciones, tal como lo hizo hace veinte años. Vale la pena destacar cada uno de los momentos de Confessions II y compararlo con el álbum anterior en la siguiente reseña, canción por canción...
1. I Feel So Free:
This is the album's opening track—and the first one we heard even before the official release—though it isn't the album's lead single. "I Feel So Free" makes it clear from the very start that the sequel to Confessions has arrived; its underlying sound reveals the influence of "Future Lovers," an iconic track from the previous album that opened her Confessions tour concerts. Since "Future Lovers" was a personal favorite of mine, this song struck a nostalgic chord right away, feeling like a genuine invitation to listen to the rest of the album.
La primera canción del álbum y el primer corte que pudimos oír incluso antes de su estreno, aunque no se trata del primer sencillo del mismo. I Feel So Free nos deja claro desde el inicio que ha llegado la segunda parte de Confessions, y es que en su sonido base se puede apreciar la influencia de Future Lovers, una canción que fue ícono en su álbum pasado y con la cual iniciaba sus conciertos en el Tour Confessions. Al ser esta última la canción que yo más amaba, me toco la nostalgia desde el primer momento y lo sentí como una invitación real para oír el resto del álbum.
2. Good For The Soul:
Just like on her album from 20 years ago, Confessions II features a connection between songs. There are no pauses during the opening tracks of this record; the end of one song flows seamlessly into the next so that the music and dancing never stop—something I don't always enjoy, but Madonna pulls it off beautifully, and she always ensures that radio-friendly versions are released as additional singles. The sound of this second track takes me back to the early 2000s and, in a way, reminds me a bit of the concept behind "Get Together," which was the third single back in 2006.
Al igual que en su álbum de hace 20 años, Confessions II lleva una conexión entre canciones. No hay pausas en los primeros tracks de este trabajo, el final de una canción conecta y encaja a perfección con la siguiente para que la música y el baile no se detengan, algo que no muchas veces me gusta, pero Madonna lo hace muy bien, y siempre se encarga de comercializar las versiones para radio en los sencillos adicionales. 3. One Step Away:
This song also transports us back to the best dance moments of the early 2000s, albeit with modern touches. Its powerful, deep bass offers a truly sensory experience—one that is definitely worth listening to with headphones—and it is perfect for dancing either solo or with a partner. I think it’s one of the best tracks on Confessions II, and it also reminds me of several songs from the previous album.
Esta canción también nos traslada a los mejores momentos dance de inicios de los 2000's, aunque con toques modernos. Sus poderosos y profundos graves son toda una experiencia sensorial que de hecho vale la pena oír con auriculares, además de ser perfecta para bailar solo o en pareja. Creo que es una de las mejores canciones de Confessions II y también me recuerda a varios tracks del disco anterior.
4. Bring Your Love Ft. Sabrina Carpenter:
I think one of the best surprises of 2026 has been this collaboration between Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter—given that the latter has been a welcome addition to pop culture in recent years—and both artists bring plenty of sensuality to the album's flagship track. While the numbers might not have been as high as expected for two top-tier artists, the song itself is excellent; perhaps it shouldn't have been the lead single, though, since other tracks have resonated more with the public. As it stands, this is the only song with an official music video—aside from the mini-film shot to promote the album.
Creo que una de las mejores sorpresas de 2026 ha sido esta colaboración entre Madonna y Sabrina Carpenter, ya que esta última ha sido muy grata para la cultura pop en los últimos años, y ambas aportan mucha sensualidad a la canción bandera de este álbum. Puede que los números no hayan sido tan altos como se esperaba para dos artistas de alta categoría, pero la canción es muy buena, quizás no debió ser el primer sencillo promocional, ya que otras han tenido más aceptación del público, y hasta ahora, esta es la única canción que cuenta con un videoclip oficial, sacando el hecho de que grabó un mini film para promocionar el álbum.
5. Danceteria:
Sometimes I think "Danceteria" is the best song on Confessions II, not just because of its sound, but because of what it represents. There is a great tribute behind the lyrics of this track, which has been a fan favorite since the moment it was released. It has a dance-pop sound very similar to "Runway" by Lady Gaga and Doechii—a resemblance that makes me think Madonna and this song would have been a great choice to promote The Devil Wears Prada 2, especially since both projects are sequels to original works from twenty years ago.
A veces pienso que Danceteria es la mejor canción de Confessiosn II, no solo por su sonido, sino por lo que representa. Hay un gran homenaje detrás de la letra de esta canción, la cual es de las preferidas del público desde el momento en que se estrenó. Tiene un sonido pop dance muy parecido a Runway de Lady Gaga y Doechii, que me hace pensar que Madonna y esta canción habrían sido una gran opción para promocionar El Diablo Viste A La Moda 2, además de que ambos proyectos son una secuela de un trabajo original de hace 20 años ya.
6. Read My Lips Ft. Feid:
When "Read My Lips" came out, I thought it would be a big hit. It sounds great, and a shortened version was even used to promote the official music for the FIFA World Cup. It’s a collaboration with the artist Feid and stands out as the first truly different sound when listening to the album in order. That brief minute of reggaeton and Latin flavor deviates slightly from the original dance concept, but they managed to incorporate it successfully—plus, it was great to hear Madonna singing in Spanish again.
Cuando salió Read My Lips pensé que tendría gran aceptación. Su sonido es genial, e incluso una versión más corta fue usada para promocionar la música oficial del mundial de fútbol de la FIFA. Es una colaboración con el artista Feid y es el primer sonido realmente diferente de todo el trabajo escuchándolo en orden. Ese pequeño minuto de reggaetón y sabor latino escapa un poco de la idea dance original, pero supieron incorporarlo con éxito, además de volver a escuchar un poco de español en Madonna.
7. Everything:
Interestingly, "Everything" reminds me more of Lady Gaga's sound than Madonna's own. It bears a strong resemblance to The Fame Monster, Born This Way, or even Artpop, yet it remains one of the true gems of Confessions II, confirming that this album shouldn't go unnoticed by electropop fans.
Curiosamente Everything me hace pensar más en el sonido de Lady Gaga que en la propia Madonna. Tiene mucho de The Fame Monster, Born This Way o el mismo Artpop, pero no deja de ser una de las grandes joyas de Confessions II, confirmando que para los fans del electropop, este álbum no debería pasar desapercibido.
8: Love Sensation Ft. Kylie Minogue:
Regarding "Love Sensation," I simply have to share the new version featuring Kylie Minogue with you, though it isn't the one found on the album itself, but rather on the new releases that include remixes. While this collaboration might have been created to boost sales of Confessions II, it is no secret that a song uniting these two divas was a dream come true; both are pop icons and goddesses to dance music lovers. Kylie’s vocals add a great deal of sensuality to a track that already had all the makings of a hit.
Para Love Sensation no puedo evitar compartirles la nueva versión junto a Kylie Minogue, aunque no es la que encontrarán en el álbum, sino en sus nuevas versiones con remixes incluidos. Puede ser que esta colaboración haya sido creada para subir las ventas de Confessions II, pero no es un secreto para nadie que era un sueño tener una canción de estas dos divas juntas, ya que ambas son íconos del pop y unas diosas para los amantes de la música dance. La voz de Kylie aporta mucha sensualidad a una canción que ya tenía mucho material para ser un éxito.
9. Love Without Words:
Past the halfway point of the album, this track reminds us that we are still listening to the second part of Confessions on a Dance Floor. Madonna frequently whispers her confessions to the rhythm of the music. The sound is heavily electronic, and it is one of the best tracks for choreography; it will be interesting to see a live performance.
Más allá de la mitad del álbum, este track nos recuerda que seguimos escuchando la segunda parte de Confessions On A Dance Floor. Madonna sigue susurrando con mucha frecuencia sus confesiones al ritmo de la música. El sonido es muy electrónico y es una de las mejores para hacer coreografías, habría que esperar ver un performance en vivo.
10. Bizarre Ft. Martin Garrix
"Bizarre" feels great when it kicks in as the tenth track; the entire album is danceable, and knowing that Martin Garrix was part of the project adds to the excitement of listening to Confessions. In fact, Garrix's contributions are palpable, making this song one of the album's standouts, in my opinion.
Bizarre se siente muy bien cuando comienza a sonar como el track 10, y es que todo el álbum es bailable, y saber que Martin Garrix fue parte del proyecto aumenta la emoción de estar oyendo Confessions, de hecho, se sienten los aportes de Garrix y hacen de esta canción una de las más destacadas del álbum, en mi opinión.
11. School:
"School" arrives as one of the boldest offerings, featuring an immersive sound that I highly recommend listening to with headphones. The whispered vocals remain very prominent throughout the track, keeping us in the realm of confessions established at the very start of the album. I find this to be the strangest track on Confessions, yet it fits perfectly with the album's title and overall sound.
School llega como una de las propuestas más atrevidas y con un sonido envolvente que y también recomiendo oír con los audífonos. Los susurros se mantienen muy firme en este track, lo cual nos mantiene en la onda de confesiones que suenan desde la primera canción del álbum. Creo que esta es la más extraña de todo Confessions, pero a la vez encaja con el título de la obra y el sonido en general.
12. Fragile:
I’d venture to say that "Fragile" is the most distinctive track on the album; honestly, I’m not a huge fan of its sound, though I do appreciate the lyrics—which are among the most intense and sincere. I feel it could have benefited from a darker sound with more prominent bass, though I also realize there are already plenty of songs like that. Then again, perhaps I’m the one who’s mistaken; it actually reminds me a bit of "Forbidden Love" or "Isaac" from the previous album, yet those tracks had more powerful bass, giving them a timeless quality despite their mellower tempo.
Me atrevo a decir que Fragile es la canción más diferente del álbum, y de hecho no me gusta mucho en sonido, aunque sí en su letra, ya que es una de las más intensas y sinceras. Creo que debió usar un sonido más oscuro y con bajos que resalten más aquí, pero también entiendo que hay muchas canciones como esas ya. Quizás quien esté equivocado soy yo, de hecho me recuerda un poco a Forbbiden Love o Isaac del álbum anterior, y aún así, esas canciones tenían más potencia en los graves, lo cual las hizo eternas a pesar de ser más tranquilas.
13: My Sins Are My Savior Ft. Stromae
By this point in the album, the runtime feels excessive. Twenty years ago, there were only 12 tracks, yet this is already the 13th—and the songs are quite long for the current musical landscape. Furthermore, the sound doesn't quite mesh with what we’ve heard so far, even though the confessional atmosphere remains. It’s a less commercial, almost experimental style of pop that, in my opinion, is a bit dull. Given the collaboration with Stromae, I had high hopes for this track, but the whole thing feels like a wild choice—one that might have worked if the project had concluded with "My Sins Are My Savior," but that isn't the case, as there are still three songs left.
Para estas alturas del álbum, me parece que el tiempo de escucha se está excediendo. Hace 20 años solo fueron 12 pistas, y esta ya es la 13 de canciones que realmente son muy largas para la época musical que estamos viviendo; además de esto, el sonido no encaja con todo lo que hemos venido escuchando, aunque se mantenga la atmosfera de confesiones. Es un pop menos comercial, casi experimental y en mi opinión, un poco aburrido. Al ser junto al artista Stromae esperaba lo mejor para esta canción, pero es una locura que habría quedado bien solo si daban fin al proyecto con My Sins Are My Savior, pero no es así, aunque quedan tres canciones más.
14: Betrayal
I grouped the album's last three songs together because I feel pretty much the same way about all of them. I think they’re unnecessary. They drag out the listening experience and feel completely disconnected from the sound and the sensual image she’s aiming for with this era. I’m not saying they aren’t good songs, but they lack the dance sound she’s trying to project; overall, they don’t resemble the Madonna of recent years so much as the experimental Madonna of the early '90s. I think the album should have consisted of just the first 12 tracks—much like 2006’s Confessions on a Dance Floor.
Agrupé las últimas tres canciones del álbum porque opino prácticamente lo mismo de las tres. Creo que son innecesarias. Hacen que la experiencia sea más larga y se desconectan totalmente del sonido y la imagen sensual que ella está buscando para esta era. No digo que no sean buenas canciones, pero no tienen el sonido dance que se intenta proyectar y en general no se parecen a la Madonna de los últimos años, sino más bien a la Madonna experimental de inicios de los 90's. Creo que debieron ser los 12 primeros tracks solamente, tal cual como en Confessions On A Dance Floor de 2006.
15: The Test Ft. Lola Leon
I feel that the last four songs bring down my final rating, which is why I’m giving it a score of 70/100 here on @Scrobble. I also give it this score because some tracks clearly mimic the previous album, and it’s always good to seek out something new. Each song reminds me of something from 20 years ago, but overall, it’s an album that is thoroughly enjoyable up to track 12, and I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of dance music. It’s clear it won’t be as big a hit as the last one; it was also unusual for it to drop at a time when the streaming soundscape tends to be more laid-back, Latin, or urban. Another factor is the track lengths—which have never bothered me personally—but nowadays, to attract a younger audience, the sound needs to be more concise, especially in the opening seconds, and even more so for an artist of her age.
Siento que las últimas cuatro canciones le bajan la puntuación a mi opinión final, y por eso aquí en @Scrobble solo le doy una puntuación de 70 / 100. También le doy esta valoración porque hay canciones que evidentemente imitan al álbum anterior, y siempre es bueno buscar la novedad. Creo que cada una de las canciones me hace acordar de alguna otra de hace 20 años, pero en general, es un disco que se disfruta a plenitud hasta el track 12 y lo recomiendo totalmente si eres fans de la música dance. >Es evidente que no será un gran éxito como el anterior y también fue extraño que apareciera justo en esta época donde el sonido streaming suele ser más relajado, latino o urbano. El otro motivo es lo largo de los tracks, lo cual nunca ha sido molestia para mí, pero en la actualidad para atraer público joven hay que ser más precisos con el sonido, especialmente en los primeros segundos, y más para una artista de su edad.
