Splinterlands: Combining Avina of the Wolf with Cleanse in Noxious Fumes

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Avina of the Wolf.

Featured cards

image.png Avina of the Wolf is a life archon that costs 5 mana. This splinter gives 2 monsters +2 speed or one monster heal. Leveling this card increases the level cap of the monsters you can use, and I think it's a fairly good archon.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The rulesets this time are Noxious Fumes. This means that all monsters start off poisoned. There is also 28 mana available, and I can use any [splinter](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-splinter) except for earth.
Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Avina of the Wolf 5 Summoner +2 speed or heal
Mantaroth 11 1st Shield and Armored Strike
Meriput Magician 5 2nd Tank Heal
Luceheim Demon 7 3rd Snipe and Cleanse
Total Mana: 28

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Avina of the Wolf for the tank on one monster. My tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike, followed by Meriput Magician with tank heal. Finally, I have Luceheim Demon with snipe and cleanse. With this, my Mantaroth is in a good position to outlast my opponent.

Round 1

round 1.png At first glance, I think that this match is my win because I have heal on Mantaroth, and my opponent can't do enough damage to overcome it.

Round 4

round 4.png A few rounds later, my opponent and me are down to 2 monsters. However, this is my win beecause the poison will kill off that magic monster, and my opponent can't damage me anymore.

conclusion.png I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned. My plan to use Mantaroth as a tank with heal worked well, and the cleanse removed the poison. Combined with an extra tank heal, Mantaroth was just a beast as it was hard to kill. It allowed me to easily outlast my opponent and finish him off.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
