Can We Use The Bible To Get Healthy?

u4p.png

A few things before we dive in....

This is gonna be a long post, and I know that because there is a lot of scripture I want to go over. Because this is a big topic....And there's a ton to go over :)

Also, I'm being a bit selfish here because I am still on a mission to get my health right. Being a diabetic, it's been hard to stay on any kind of 'diet' that doesn't shoot my blood sugar up but I've been reading a lot about things found in the bible.

So if you are interested in what God has to say, when it comes to your health...Let's have a little bible study of sorts in today's post!

The Eden Diet - Before I get into clean and unclean meats, I want us to think about something logically. Before sin entered into the world, what did God have us eat in Eden?

Genesis 1:29 tells us:

GENESIS-1-29-KJV-And-God-said-Behold-I-have-given-you-every-herb-bearing-seed-which-is-upon-the-face-of-all-the-earth--09-13-2026_08_23_PM.png

Fruits. Nuts. And grains.

That's it. And please note, this was the perfect diet because nothing died to feed us and it was before the fall of man.

Now here's the logical thinking behind this....

When Jesus comes back and we are taken to heaven, there will be no death, no suffering. Eden lost, becomes Eden restored.

So the ideal diet for humanity (source: God's design) is a vegetarian diet.

And while I'm personally not vegetarian, I do try to make sure my diet is filled with vegetables and nuts. Lots of water too.

Clean vs Unclean Meat - This is the debate that rages on within Christianity. Did Paul and Jesus even say Leviticus 11 is done away with?

I would say no, and there is plenty of biblical evidence for it. The biggest argument comes from Mark 7, but if we read the context of it, Jesus is referring to eating with unwashed hands.

Now if people want to eat pork and that nastiness, that's up to them. Be convicted yourself....But once again, I'm going to go by the instruction manual that our Creator laid out for us.

Want some more evidence of this? Remember that popular bible story about Noah bringing the animals in two by twos? Did you know that was only for the unclean animals....?

The clean animals were brought in by sevens because He knew, the unclean animals weren't to be eaten. Just a male and female to reproduce...The cleans ones were for food:

GENESIS-7-2-KJV-Of-every-clean-beast-thou-shalt-take-to-thee-by-sevens-the-male-and-his-female-and-of-beasts-that-are--09-13-2026_08_43_PM.png

Clean meats, heavy vegetables. For me personally, it's lower carbs as well, so I'm big on salads and healthy legumes. But alas, this is a debate, and again, you must be convicted in what God is telling you and what you choose.

1 Corinthians 6:19,20 state that these bodies aren't ours they belong to God. So I know personally, I need to do a much better job at honoring the gift He's given.

Look at what God wants for us?

3-JOHN-1-2-KJV-Beloved-I-wish-above-all-things-that-thou-mayest-prosper-and-be-in-health-even-as-thy-soul-prospereth--09-13-2026_08_34_PM.png

He wants us to be in good health!

And there are plenty of reasons for this. The better health we have, the better our relationship with Him is...Here's why:

Where do we 'worship' God? In ours minds! And if we are clear thinking, healthy and not diseased with self inflicted issues, we are much more connected to Him.

Crazy talk?

Let's see what the bible says....

PROVERBS-23-7-KJV-For-as-he-thinketh-in-his-heart-so-is-he-Eat-and-drink-saith-he-to-thee-but-his-heart-is-not-with-thee--09-13-2026_08_36_PM.png

This is a 'personal development' favorite. I used to quote this verse over and over again and even read the classic success book called...As A Man Thinketh.

But look at the context of Proverbs 23....It begins with not eating like a slob and over indulging. Once again, God has the ideal diet for us, but as this is a fallen world we tend to think we know more than Him.

ISAIAH-55-2-KJV-Wherefore-do-ye-spend-money-for-that-which-is-not-bread-and-your-labour-for-that-which-satisfieth-not--09-13-2026_08_40_PM.png

This is a great verse that kind of puts those two points together...When we are focusing on building a relationship with God, we are focused on making sure what we put into our bodies (and minds) are pure and good!

These are just a fraction of the verses in Scripture that really show us God has our health in mind. I know I need to be in better health, and I'm thankful that my Creator has the ultimate instruction manual for our bodies :)

Going with vegetables and fruits is always good for fitness

Since you asked a question as the subject....the answer is Yes. I've heard Jon has gotten much healthier lifting bibles inside that truck.

  • Eating more vegetables, avoiding excess and taking better care of our bodies are things most people could benefit from.
