Running fox nodded gratefully and took a hold of the musket with both hands. His eyes lit up at his cherished new possession, the barrel now hot from the charge. Then nodding first to Bart, he motioned to his companions to close up the crate.
A hundred yards away, Omer Yilmaz watched the scene from behind a patch of thick bushes …
“I must warn the Scots!” He whispered to himself.

As dawn broke over the river Niagara, the ship’s bell rang out loudly...
The Captain was already standing in the center of the main deck, his arms folded as he waited the crew to assemble.
It didn’t take long for the twenty-three core crewmen to stand in line as the Captain addressed them…
“Today we begin a great joint effort with the Seneca Nation!” He called out in a loud voice, “With their labor and our knowledge, we will begin to build a portage!”
“A portage?!” Whispered Standing Officer Pocketechange to Commander Kerrislravenhill.
“Not to be confused with ‘pottage’…” She responded slyly.
“Oh boy…I suppose…”
The Captain continued…
“We will go ashore and sit with the Seneca. We will show them the plan again and make sure we get the three hundred men to help us build this!”
“Sairrr. If I may?” Lieutenant Lupega asked, holding his hand up high.
“Go ahead.” “To portage what Sairrr?” ”To portage the mighty Frigate Silverton around the great Niagara Falls!”
A deafening hush spread through the crew. Then whispering, doubts and disbeliefs!
[Several miles upstream…]
Omer skillfully steered their canoe into shore near the small cottage in the edge of the woods. Leyla stowed her paddle and jumped out, pulling on the lead line to help bring their month’s-worth of supplies ashore.
Quickly, they began to carry the heavy bags to the cottage…
“Is there no other way Omer?” (Translated from Turkish)
“No Leyla, I am bound!” He responded resolutely.
“I want to go!” “No! It’s dangerous! The warriors will be travelling south along the east bank trail! If they saw us, they could capture both of us!”
Leyla’s eyes were downcast. This was Déjà vu all over again...
“When will you leave?”
“Tonight! I have to stay ahead of them!”
“Oh Omer!” Leyla sighed sadly as she hugged him and buried her tears in his chest.
