This microfiction story is for the prompt "bronze statue". I own several small statues that I've collected over the years. Each item reminds me of a time, place, or event in my life that is memorable. I've collected so many items that I had to cease, else be overrun with antiques. Now, I'm downsizing and gifting items away.
However, if one of my items was missing, the first thought I would have is that only individuals close to me that I allow in my personal space know of my collections since I don't broadcast them. I share a story along those lines. A ZAPFIC50 story is told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.
I based my 50-word story on Freewriter's Community Daily Writing Prompt: 21 October 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3263: bronze statue . If you'd like to join in from the daily prompts, visit @daily.prompt's Profile and view each day's freewrite prompt.
Below is my story.
The bronze statue sat in the corner, overlooked by all passersby visiting the pawn shop, save one.
Jonathan paused, then backed up. The markings on that piece spoke to him. It should've. He owned it for seventeen years before recently reporting it stolen.
Immediately, he searched for the shop's owner.

Good luck everyone with whatever your endeavors.
