This microfiction story is for the prompt "single, but not available". It reminds me of situations that individuals cause due to dishonesty when they first meet. Instead of being truthful about a past relationship and whether they are truly free from the emotional bond, they hide the truth. I think honesty is the best solution when meeting someone new. I've known several family members and friends who were caught up in the exact drama that ensues when one isn't truthful. A ZAPFIC50 story is told in exactly 50 words. Below is my story.
"Are you married?" Dennis asked boldly at the bar.
Celia hesitated, then boldly., "single, but not available."
"I appreciate the honesty. Some would have lied, then broke my heart this time next year pining for an unresolved relationship."
It wasn't funny, yet Celia laughed.
The first time in eight months.
