MicroFiction: A 250 word story format that I often utilize to address the daily prompts. The story today is written using the word prompt "highlight of the week".
...To achieve a status of highlight of the week, a person, place, thing, or event has to rise to the position as perhaps one of the most important aspects a society believes deserves to be brought to the people's attention to be celebrated. Usually, individuals receiving the news have subjective opinions of whether it's important.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of 31 August 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3212: highlight of the week.
Below is my story:
"It's only Monday, and already Sean's provided the most boring and valueless report for our highlight of the week," outspoken Abigail shouted as she pivoted toward the back of the classroom. That's all it took to stir the class' attention.
"Now, children, be kind," Ms. Brighton urged, tapping the chalkboard to divert the conversation and avoid antagonizing her.
But contentious Abigail wasn't done. Sean's Sunday night comment on her social media post rankled. Clenching her fist, she glared at the teacher, retorting hotly, "you always protect that low-life!"
She'd had enough of Sean's antics, spreading unfounded vicious rumors about her private life. All because she wouldn't succumb to his advances and persuade her girlfriends to do likewise with his fraternity brothers. Not all sports players were worth the hype once you strip off the uniforms, she realized.
Simple cyber bullying in retaliation.
Unleashing her contempt for the teacher, she roared, "I overheard my parents say, Ms. Brighton, that you defend him because you're having a relationship with his father and don't want to risk discovery by the school. And it didn't just start after his divorce."
Ms. Brighton gasped. Horrified, she turned and fled the classroom.
Abigail rose and walked casually to the front of the class, standing in the teacher's vacated spot.
"Attention class. Some of you may not know that Sean commented on my social media page in retaliation for my refusing his unwanted and lewd advances. If you've been victimized, contact me. Together we can stop him."

«Solo es lunes y Sean ya nos ha dado el informe más aburrido e insustancial para nuestro momento destacado de la semana», gritó la franca Abigail mientras se giraba hacia el fondo del aula. Eso fue todo lo que hizo falta para captar la atención de la clase.
«Vamos, niños, sed amables», instó la señora Brighton, dando unos golpecitos en la pizarra para desviar la conversación y evitar enfadarla.
Pero la conflictiva Abigail no había terminado. El comentario que Sean había dejado el domingo por la noche en su publicación de las redes sociales le había sentado muy mal. Apretando el puño, miró con ira a la profesora y replicó acaloradamente: «¡Siempre proteges a ese canalla!»
Ya estaba harta de las travesuras de Sean, que difundía rumores maliciosos e infundados sobre su vida privada. Todo porque ella no cedía a sus insinuaciones ni convencía a sus amigas de que hicieran lo mismo con los compañeros de su fraternidad. Se dio cuenta de que no todos los deportistas merecían tanto bombo una vez que se quitaban el uniforme.
Un simple caso de ciberacoso en represalia.
Dando rienda suelta a su desprecio hacia la profesora, rugió: «He oído decir a mis padres, Sra. Brighton, que usted lo defiende porque mantiene una relación con su padre y no quiere arriesgarse a que la escuela lo descubra. Y eso no empezó solo después de su divorcio».
La Sra. Brighton se quedó sin aliento. Horrorizada, se dio la vuelta y salió corriendo del aula.
Abigail se levantó y caminó con naturalidad hasta la parte delantera del aula, situándose en el lugar que había dejado vacante la profesora.
«Atención, clase. Puede que algunos de vosotros no sepáis que Sean ha publicado un comentario en mi página de redes sociales como represalia por haber rechazado sus insinuaciones indeseadas y obscenas. Si habéis sido víctimas de él, poneros en contacto conmigo. Juntos podemos detenerlo».
