There have been trends of using AI to make official videos for songs, something that was very unusual and appeared more like a joke back in the day, but now, it is becoming more real and acceptable. Artists, including famous ones, now release AI-generated videos as the official videos for their songs. Instead of making real-life videos, as has been the custom, they have adapted to making videos completely with AI. While some have faced heavy criticism for doing so, others have received good remarks.
In this blog, I will spotlight Ruggedman, one of the OGs before IG in the Nigerian music industry. I don't know what pushed him to return to music after staying away for many years. I guess it's the love and fun of making music.
My Life by Ruggedman
This song, especially the video, is what someone will watch and keep shouting, "WOW!", "wow!", "wow!" due to how catchy and intriguing the video is. The superb nature of the video will skyrocket a Nigerian to 100% surprise with the featured faces.
Honestly, I've watched the video several times, and I've never been interested in the audio; I'm all interested in the video.
The video is all about sci-fi fighting scenes between two companions, Ruggedman and Iyabo Ojo, against a team of notable faces in their different fashions. The first car that chased them had Peller, Charles Okocha, and 9ice, all carrying sophisticated guns. The likes of Chioma Chukwuka, Olamide, Tony Elumelu, Funke Akindele, Obi Cubana, Ochacho, and many others are featured in the video. The graphics are so nice that, even though it is an AI-generated video, it was entertaining to watch.
Rock Steady by Ruggedman and 2Baba
This is another song I feel was composed not for the lyrics or the audio content but for the video idea. Like, I watched this video without paying attention to the audio but purely focused on the video. The video followed the same path as the first one I mentioned above. It's all about fight scenes, and the AI work is too superb. This video featured a lot of celebrities, and the craft and idea behind it are so good.

Away from Ruggedman, another song video I came across where the artist unapologetically settled for an AI-generated video is the music video for Na Afa Nana by Phyno. When this was released, it raised a lot of criticism, but then, the artist had his reasons for choosing to use an AI-generated video as the official video for his song.
