On a particular Saturday, my boss informed me that Mr. John had been admitted to the hospital because he had been pierced with a knife.
"A knife? What happened? Did armed robbers come to his house?" I asked curiously.
"He went to de-escalate a fight in his neighborhood, and he was cut with a knife by the son of the man who was fighting with his father," he replied, and I couldn't believe what I just heard. I knew the son in question couldn't have been in an ordinary one to have had them use a knife in the fight as if they were shooting a Chinese movie.
On Sunday of that week, which was the following day, I decided to go to the hospital after church to visit him. When I got there, I wept. The guy couldn't even open his eyes to see the people around him. He was still battling the pain from the knife-cut injury.
When I got back and asked questions about the situation involving the family whose fight he had gone to de-escalate, they said the guy who stâbbed him was a cūltist and had been on the run ever since he committed the crime.
That situation added more fuel to the reasons why I don't like to de-escalate fights. The only fights you can see me de-escalating are the ones involving children, which I can swish away from each other with just 10% effort from my right hand. You can't see me in the midst of fights between adults, not even in husband-and-wife fights. I can only tell them to stop fighting with my mouth, but I never get physical when trying to separate a fight because I'm very slim by nature, and people's moves can easily kick me away. I don't want to experience that.

Many times, I have witnessed fights between husbands and wives in my area, and I don't dare launch myself into the fight just because I want to separate them. No way. I can only shout at them to stop.
