They all live in a place that seems quite peaceful and is somewhat removed from the big cities. It appears that they lead a normal life: the kids go to school, Haruka is good at sports, and their mom even runs a sort of coffee shop. However, the family has a big secret.
The thing is, their father is an alien who came to Earth fleeing a war that took place years ago and in which he was involved. Haruka, who possesses remarkable physical abilities, also inherited something from her father known as the Engine; this is a kind of combat machine that allows her to deploy enormous steel arms and even use other tools to fight or for whatever purpose she chooses—however, she is forbidden from using the Engine.
Akira, on the other hand, did not inherit an Engine, so he feels bad—or even inferior—to his older sister. Akira seeks to compensate for the lack of an Engine through martial arts. Akira wants to be stronger just for the sake of being stronger; he doesn’t want to feel inferior to his sister, and he doesn’t want to be seen as the kind of child who needs to be protected and saved.
Haruka’s personality, on the other hand, is different from Akira’s; she is cheerful and smiling, and she tries to live a normal life. Her entire life doesn’t revolve around whether or not she has that artifact—she’s a normal girl. Well, her dad was an alien, so she’s not exactly normal, but what is made clear to us is that the siblings love each other despite their differences—there’s no major conflict between them.
There’s something I haven’t mentioned yet, and that is that the entire world has suffered a sort of blackout—networks, the internet, and almost all electronic devices have stopped working. No one knows the cause of this, but people in some parts of the world are becoming hysterical, to the point of causing riots and looting. As I said before, the place where they live is very peaceful.
One day, Haruka had to use her Engine because a fighter jet suddenly stopped working and was about to crash right where they were. The incident didn’t go unnoticed, as a flashing red light began to glow on Haruka’s forehead. This wasn’t new to their mother, and she told them that when their father had to fight, that same light appeared—and that’s when an alien organization called EDVA was involved.
Vertex Force is a mecha action anime, as I mentioned at the beginning. It’s not an anime that will revolutionize the genre—many people might label it “generic”—but it’s worth noting that the action is guaranteed. If you like robotic action anime, then you might enjoy Vertex Force.
Take care, and see you next time.
