Checking in from France!
A few weeks ago, when I found out that my next unloading would be in Norway and that I would also be spending the weekend there, a big smile appeared on my face. Norway is one of the most beautiful countries, and every visit there makes me happy. To my surprise, however, the ferry had not been booked for Saturday, as I had expected, but only for Monday in the evening. And my unloading was scheduled for Tuesday morning. I quickly calculated the time, though, and knew that I would not be able to arrive at the unloading point on time if I was also supposed to comply with the driver’s working hours. So I asked the forwarding company to rebook the ferry, and luckily they managed to do it. My ferry was on Saturday, while the unloading was not until Tuesday. That gave me quite a lot of time to explore the nearby towns. My choice, of course, was KRISTIANSAND, a coastal town with its own charm.
Kiedy to kilka tygodni temu dowiedziałam się, że mój następny rozładunek będzie w Norwegii, a do tego szykował się tam weekend, na mojej twarzy zagościł spory uśmiech. Norwegia to jeden z piękniejszych krajów i każda wizyta w tym kraju sprawia, że jestem radosna. Ku mojemu jednak zdziwieniu prom został zabukowany nie na sobotę, tak jak przypuszczałam, a dopiero na poniedziałek wieczór. A rozładunek miałam we wtorek rano. Szybko jednak przeliczyłam czas i wiedziałam, że nie zdołam dojechać punktualnie na rozładunek, jeśli mam przy tym wszystkim zachować czas pracy kierowcy. Także poprosiłam spedycję o przebukowanie promu i na szczęście udało się. Prom miałam w sobotę, a rozładunek dopiero we wtorek. Miałam zatem całkiem sporo czasu na zwiedzanie okolicznych miejscowości. Mój wybór padł oczywiście na KRISTIANSAND - miejscowość nadbrzeżna mająca swój urok.
Kristiansand is located in southern Norway, on the Skagerrak Strait. It is one of the country’s most important centers and an important transport hub. There is a large port here, which I also sailed into myself, as well as railway and air connections. The city was founded in 1641 by King Christian IV and designed with a layout of straight streets. This characteristic layout in the city center, known as KVADRATUREN, has survived to this day.
Kristiansand leży na południu Norwegii nad cieśniną Skagerrak. To jeden z najważniejszych ośrodków tego kraju, z ważnym punktem transportowym. Działa tutaj bowiem duży port, do którego sama również dopłynęłam, jak również połączenia kolejowe i lotnicze. Miasto zostało założone w 1641 roku przez króla Kristiana IV i zaprojektowane w układzie prostych ulic. Ten charakterystyczny układ w centrum, zwany KVADRATUREN zachował się do dziś.
Although Kristiansand is not actually that small for a Norwegian city, with around 119,000 inhabitants, its center is quite compact and can easily be explored on foot. I decided to explore it by bike. From the parking lot to the city, I had about 2.5 kilometers, so it was just right for a bike ride. The city center itself is not very large and perhaps does not have an especially strong Norwegian character. Personally, the center reminded me of a holiday destination. There was a lot of greenery and plenty of flowers. It had a very summery, holiday-like atmosphere.
Pomimo tego, iż Kristiansand wcale nie jest znowu aż tak bardzo małe jak na norweską miejscowość, gdyż liczy około 119 tysięcy mieszkańców, to jego centrum jest dosyć kompaktowe i spokojnie można je poznawać pieszo. Ja zdecydowałam się na zwiedzanie rowerem. Z parkingu do miasta miałam około 2,5 kilometra, więc w sam raz na rowerową przejażdżkę. Sam rynek nie jest za duży i nie przypomina typowo norweskiego charakteru. Mi osobiście centrum skojarzyło się z wakacjami. Było tam bardzo dużo zieleni, kwiatów. Miało właśnie taki bardzo wakacyjny charakter.
After exploring the city center, I headed more towards the waterfront, where this building caught my attention. It turned out that the history of this building dates back to the 19th century, and it originally served as a salt warehouse. In 1982, the building was converted into a restaurant specializing in fish dishes. The restaurant surprised Norwegians, because at that time eating fish was associated more with home-cooked food than with something served in a restaurant. However, the restaurant quickly gained popularity, and fish dishes are still served there to this day.
Po zwiedzeniu centrum udałam się bardziej w stronę nabrzeża i moją uwagę przykuł ten oto budynek. Okazało się, iż historia tego budynku sięga XIX wieku i pierwotnie służył jako magazyn soli. W 1982 roku budynek został przekształcony na restaurację specjalizującą się w rybach. Restauracja ta wzbudziła zaskoczenie Norwegów, gdyż w tamtym czasie jedzenie ryb bardziej kojarzyło się z domowym jedzeniem aniżeli takim w restauracji. Szybko jednak restauracja zyskała na swojej popularności i do dzisiaj są tam serwowane dania rybne.
A little further on, you can spot a huge vase. I think it was the first time in my life that I had seen such an enormous vessel. It weighs around 2.5 tons and measures about 2.5 meters in height. It is not difficult to guess that it is a sculpture called KRUKKE TIL KRISTIANSAND, created by Kjell Nupen, a Norwegian painter, sculptor and graphic artist who came from Kristiansand. The sculpture is made of fired clay and ceramic, and it was donated to the city of Kristiansand to mark the 70th anniversary of the Hennig-Olsen company.
Kawałek dalej można dostrzec ogromną wazę. Chyba pierwszy raz w życiu widziałam tak ogromne naczynie. Waży ono około 2,5 tony i mierzy około 2,5 metra. Nie trudno się domyśleć, że jest to rzeźba o nazwie KRUKKE TIL KRISTIANSAND, a autorem jest Kjell Nupen, norweski malarz, rzeźbiarz i grafik pochodzący właśnie z Kristiansand. Rzeźba jest wykonana z wypalonej gliny/ceramiki i została podarowana miastu Kristiansand z okazji 70-lecia firmy Hennig Olsen.
Walking a little further, we come to a pretty interesting bridge and to other districts of Kristiansand. However, I decided to save that part as material for another post.
Idąc jeszcze kawałek dalej, dochodzimy do dosyć fajnego mostu i do innych dzielnic miasta Kristiansand. Jednak tą część zostawiłam sobie jako materiał na innego posta.
