One Fight, One Shove, One Breakup

Well, It happens to me and in a funniest way at that. I left home to see my boyfriend but come back single.

There was a time I went to my then-boyfriend’s house, and honestly, I had no idea what I was walking into, I was going there to collect some handout because we were in the same department but he was one year senior to me.

The moment I got there, I was met with a huge fight.

People were already heated, and in the middle of everything was my boyfriend. What made the situation even more frightening was that one of the people involved was holding a cutlass. My first instinct was to protect him.

I tried to caution him and pull him away because I could see how dangerous the situation was becoming. I wasn't trying to fight anyone. I wasn't trying to be a hero. I simply didn't want to stand there and watch something terrible happen to someone I cared about.

But instead of understanding what I was trying to do, he shoved me away and angrily said,

“Are you insane? Why are you pulling me?”

And just like that, everything went wrong. In the process of being shoved away and trying to get out of the chaos, I ended up with a sprained ankle.

Imagine going somewhere to see your boyfriend and leaving with an injury because you tried to protect him. 😔

But strangely enough, the sprained ankle wasn't the only thing that came out of that experience. Something inside me changed that day.

I kept thinking about what had happened. I had put myself in the middle of a dangerous situation because I cared about him. I was trying to pull him away from someone who was holding a cutlass, and his response was to push me away and make me feel like I was the problem.

That was the moment I realized something very important, You can care deeply about someone and still realize that the relationship is no longer right for you.

That incident was the end of our relationship.

Looking back now, I don't regret trying to prevent someone from getting seriously hurt. But I learned that you also have to protect yourself. You cannot save someone who doesn't recognize that you are trying to save them, and you shouldn't have to sacrifice your own safety to prove that you care.

Sometimes, one moment is enough to show you everything you need to know about a person.

For me, it was a fight, a dangerous weapon, a shove, a sprained ankle and a relationship that ended right there.

Funny enough, I went there as a girlfriend. I left with a sprained ankle and a breakup. 😭😂

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
