Looking at myself, I wonder how much life has changed and how different I was years ago. There are things I know now that I wish I had known when I was younger. Don't get me wrong, it's not because I regret everything I did, but because I think some experiences would probably have been easier if I had understood certain things earlier.
If I had the opportunity to meet my younger self, I honestly don't think I would start by giving a long lecture, this might make my younger self run away. Instead of at long lecture, I would probably give that younger version of me a big hug first. There are so many things I would want to say, but I think the first thing would be, "Please, take it easy. You don't have to figure everything out at once."
Adulthood is not as we think so if I have the opportunity to meet my younger self I would tell my younger self to take her her time growing up. Because growing up, I used to think life would somehow become easier once I got older. I imagined that by a certain age, I would have everything figured out, know exactly what I wanted, and have things fall into place. But now I understand that growing older doesn't necessarily mean having all the answers. Sometimes, adulthood comes with even more questions and responsibilities than I ever imagined.
I would tell my younger self not to allow the fear of making mistakes to stop me from trying new things. There were probably opportunities I missed because I was afraid of failing or worried about what people would say. Looking back, I realise that not every decision will turn out the way we expect, but that doesn't mean we should stop taking chances. Sometimes, even the mistakes we make teach us things we can never forget.
Another thing I would talk about is people. I would say, don't be too quick to trust everyone, but don't become so afraid of being hurt that you shut everybody out either. People will disappoint you sometimes. Some will stay in your life, while others will leave when you least expect it. And that is okay. Learn to recognise when a relationship is no longer healthy, and don't keep hurting yourself just to hold on to people.
I would also remind myself not to compare my journey with anyone else's because this destroys many lives. This is something I believe many of us struggle with, especially now that social media makes it so easy to see other people's achievements. You might look at someone and feel like they are doing better than you, forgetting that you don't know the challenges they face behind the scenes.
Life doesn't happen at the same pace for everyone. Some people achieve their dreams early, while others take a longer route. What matters is that you keep making an effort, no matter how small your progress seems.
Above all, I would tell my younger self to appreciate the little moments. Spend more time with loved ones, laugh more, take pictures, enjoy simple things, and don't spend so much time worrying about what tomorrow will bring. Sometimes, we don't realise how precious certain moments are until they become memories.
I am still learning, still making mistakes, and still trying to become a better version of myself. I guess that's what life is all about. If I ever meet my younger self, I won't tell them that life will always be easy. I will simply say, "Whatever happens, don't give up on yourself. You will figure things out one step at a time."
