Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!
In Splinterlands, having stronger or more expensive cards does not automatically mean you will win. A team with good synergy can outperform a lineup of legendary cards when its abilities, positioning and strategy work together with the battle ruleset. In today's post, I'll share one of my battles where my team of mostly common and rares beat the enemy's team composed mostly of legendary cards.

In this battle, the ruleset included Equalizer. Whenever this ruleset comes up, I always make it a point to have a complete set of six man team. This is because each unit have the same health. The more units in the team, the better since one more unit means one more team member to absorb and deal damage. I chose the Earth team with the following units.
Halfling Refugee
A one mana tank that deals three melee damage. It's role is to absorb the initial enemy damage while helping damage the enemy.
Quilliun Legionary
Quilliun Legionary is one of the under rated tanks. It has defense against magic and melee attackers with its Void and Thorns ability. It has Close Range ability that enables it to attack with range from first position.
The next four units are all elves that will gain the Execute ability from the archon. It's a clutch ability that has given me wins in many battles.
Arcane Skinwalker
Arcane Skinwalker has the Shapeshift ability that allows it to become an elf. Thus, it gains the Execute ability from the archon. He deals two magic damage and has four armor.
Blackmoor Wild Elf
Blackmoor Wild Elf is a low mana magic unit with low health. However, in this battle her health is bumped to ten.
Aranduriel
Aranduriel is an elf with Painforge ability and deals three range damage. The Painforge ability will become crucial later and is one of the key factors of my win.
Silverleaf Mage
It's my standard strategy to divide the enemy's damage so I have a Taunt unit in my team. The Silverleaf Mage not only serves as a Taunt unit, she deals three range damage as well.
The enemy has a strong line up led by the legendary Eternal Tofu archon. In addition, he has a legendary tank in Skrag the Gnaw. He also has Lord Thanalor and Fizbo the Fabulous. The enemy team has four legendary cards but only used a five man team giving me an advantage.
In the battle, it helped that I had an extra card to absorb the enemy damage. The Execute ability also proved crucial as it defeated enemies quickly and never gave them a chance to hit back in the next round. Further, my Aranduriel got poisoned and triggered her Painforge ability. This raised her attack while giving up health each round enabling her to one shot enemy units.
Final Thoughts
This battle is an example why it's fun to play Splinterlands. A well designed team can defeat stronger cards when their abilities work together effectively. The battle ruleset, positioning and turn order can give a coordinated team a significant advantage. Counter abilities can also neutralize the opponent's main strengths, making even powerful legendary cards less effective. Team synergy matters more than individual card power when the cards work together as a complete strategy.
