No necesita tu intervención activa. Solo necesita que recuerdes.

"Tal vez ahora entienda."

  • 💔 Reactividad desproporcionada a cosas pequeñas

"He aceptado lo inaceptable."

Naming es poder.

Paso 2: Rastrear Su Origen

¿Cuándo comenzó? ¿Por qué creciste permitiendo que creciera? ¿Qué necesidades tuyas no se cumplieron?

No es culpabilidad. Es comprensión.

Paso 3: Expresarlo

Paso 5: Vivir Con La Cicatriz

Una Invitación A La Comunidad De Holus And Lotus

Introduction: The Invisible That Occupies Space

Sometimes the most destructive thing is not what you see. It's what you feel. That invisible lump in your chest. That weight that has no name. That emotional cyst that grew so slowly you could almost swear it was always there.

What Is Really An Emotional Cyst?

An emotional cyst is not an emotion.

It's not sadness. It's not anger. It's not fear.

It's what grows when you hold emotions without processing them.

It's the accumulation of unspoken words. Of unestablished boundaries. Of truths you swallowed to keep the peace. Of love you offered to someone who didn't know how to receive it.

An emotional cyst is a hard formation. It grows slowly. Almost imperceptibly. And the worst part is that you can live with it for years without realizing it.

With these hazel eyes that look toward the world, I discovered that I carried several emotional cysts. And you probably do too.

How Emotional Cysts Grow

They don't start that way. They grow.

Imagine this: Someone says something that hurts. You have two options.

Option 1: Process. Talk. Set boundaries. Confront.

Option 2: Smile. Move on. Keep the pain. Pretend nothing happened.

We choose Option 2 because:

  • 😔 It's easier
  • 😔 It doesn't confront the other
  • 😔 It maintains peace (false peace)
  • 😔 It preserves the image they want to see of us

And so, one moment of pain becomes an emotional lump. Hard. Dense. Infected.

A week passes. A month passes. A year passes.

The cyst grows. It hardens. It becomes part of how we breathe. How we love. How we relate.

The Five Most Common Emotional Cysts

1. The Cyst of Non-Acceptance

Waiting for someone to change so you can love them genuinely.

"When she's different..."
"If only he understood..."
"When mom is kinder..."

While you wait, the cyst grows. Because conditional love is not love. It's negotiation. And negotiation that never completes becomes resentment.

2. The Cyst of Guilt

Believing you're responsible for others' emotions.

Someone is angry, and you believe it's your fault.
Someone is sad, and you try to save them.
Someone has a bad day, and you carry their weight.

This cyst is especially dangerous because it grows in silence. Nobody asks you to carry this. You decide it. And year after year, that phantom responsibility hardens inside you.

3. The Cyst of Resentment

Holding onto wounds without ever processing the pain.

It's accumulation. The mental list of everything they did to you. Every moment they weren't enough. Every "should have" that never happened.

Resentment is the most toxic cyst because it grows with the energy of others. It doesn't need your active intervention. It just needs you to remember.

4. The Cyst of Blurred Boundaries

Saying "yes" when you need to say "no." Accepting the unacceptable to avoid disappointing.

"I can help you" (but I can't).
"That's fine" (but it's not fine).
"I don't care" (but I care too much).

Every white lie is a deposit in the cyst. Every time you sacrifice your truth for the other's comfort, the cyst gets bigger.

5. The Cyst of Toxic Hope

Believing this time will be different when it never has been.

"This conversation will be different."
"This time she'll really change."
"Maybe now they'll understand."

Hope is not bad. But hope without evidence, hope that denies patterns, hope that keeps you in harmful situations—that becomes a cyst. Hard. Heavy. Paralyzing.

Why Emotional Cysts Are Contagious

Here's what nobody says:

Emotional cysts don't grow alone. They grow in relationship.

When you carry a cyst toward someone, that person feels the weight. Even if they can't name what it is. Even if they don't understand where it comes from. They feel it.

And often, instead of extracting it together, both people simply learn to carry the cyst. To accommodate its shape. To breathe around it.

My relationship with my grandmother is a perfect example. She carried her own cysts. I carried mine. And for years, we both grew cysts toward each other, hoping the other would be the one to extract it.

Spoiler: It never happened.

The Difference Between Feeling Emotions And Carrying Cysts

This is important:

Feeling anger is not a cyst. Processing it by staying silent with it, is.

Feeling sadness is not a cyst. Keeping it inside for years, is.

Feeling fear is not a cyst. Allowing fear to determine your life, is.

An emotional cyst is when the emotion hardens. When it stops being fluid and becomes a solid formation that occupies space in your body.

How To Recognize An Emotional Cyst

You'll feel it as:

  • 💔 Constant heaviness with no apparent reason
  • 💔 Disproportionate reactivity to small things
  • 💔 Inability to forgive even though you verbally say you did
  • 💔 Relationships that feel "incomplete" or "uncomfortable"
  • 💔 Conversations you avoid because you know they'll activate the cyst
  • 💔 The feeling of "this is all I have" in a relationship
  • 💔 The sensation of living halfway

My white skin tenses when I face someone with whom I have an unprocessed cyst. My hazel eyes avoid contact. My body knows there's something hard in there.

How Do You Extract An Emotional Cyst?

It's not surgery. It's a process. And it has steps:

Step 1: Name It

You must say out loud what the cyst is. "I have unprocessed resentment." "I carry guilt that isn't mine." "I've accepted the unacceptable."

Naming is power.

Step 2: Trace Its Origin

When did it start? Why did you allow it to grow? What needs of yours went unfulfilled?

It's not blame. It's understanding.

Step 3: Express It

It can be a conversation. It can be a letter you never send. It can be therapy. It can be a scream at the ocean.

But it must leave you.

Step 4: Set Boundaries

After extraction, you must protect. You must decide what you never again accept the same way.

Step 5: Live With The Scar

The cyst goes, but it marks a place. You learn to live with the emotional scar. And that's okay. The scar is proof that you dared to change.

The Uncomfortable Truth

Here comes what hurts:

Often, the other person will never know you extracted an emotional cyst.

They may never understand the damage they caused. Never apologize. Never acknowledge their part.

But that doesn't matter.

Because the extraction of your emotional cyst is not for them. It's for you. To breathe. To love from clarity. To live fully.

An Invitation To The Holus And Lotus Community

I'm writing this from the clarity of someone in the extraction process.

I'm not perfect at this. I still discover cysts I didn't know I had. I'm still surprised by the hardness of some. I'm still working on the extraction.

But for the first time, I'm conscious of what I carry.

And if this post helps you name it, recognize it, decide that maybe it's time to extract it—then every word was worth it.

Final Reflection

I look at the world with these hazel eyes and understand that people are not bad for not changing. They simply carry their own cysts. Some recognized. Most denied.

But me. I am choosing extraction.

And that changes everything.

Three Questions For You:

  • 🤔 What is your oldest emotional cyst? The one that's lived with you so long you almost mistake it for your identity?

  • 💔 With whom or with what situation do you carry a cyst that you know needs to be extracted?

  • 🌱 Are you willing to have the uncomfortable conversation, write the letter, do the therapy—whatever it takes—to extract it?
