Hello, dear friends. Today, I would like to share with you a documentary I have been working on since my recent visit to the town of my childhood—a trip prompted by the passing of my paternal grandmother. During that time, I had the opportunity to visit the local church, the *Inmaculada Concepción* (Immaculate Conception) parish. It was with great sadness that I observed its current condition following the double earthquake that struck my country, Venezuela, on June 24th of this year (2026). The building has sustained severe damage—not only to its façade but also to the left tower (the bell tower)—along with internal structural damage, particularly to the roof. It is practically the only structure in the entire town to have suffered such extensive damage, likely due to the building's great age. While there was almost no damage reported across the rest of the state of Carabobo—where I live—many other churches did sustain similar or less severe damage. I therefore wanted to raise my voice, as best I could, not only to highlight the current situation but also to provide some historical context.
Hola mis queridos amigos, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un documental que estuve preparando desde que estuve en el pueblo de mi infancia a raíz del fallecimiento de mi abuela paterna, en esos días tuve la oportunidad de visitar el templo, la iglesia Inmaculada Concepción y comprobé con gran tristeza el estado actual en el que se encuentras luego del doble cismo que azotó mi país (Venezuela) el pasado 24 de junio de este años en curso (2026) Presenta graves daños no solo en su fachada sino también sino también en la torre izquierda (campanario) y daños estructurales internos (en especial en el techo) y es practicamente la única edificación que sufrió tales daños en el pueblo, quizá por la cantidad de años que lleva en pie este edificio, en términos generales en todo el estado Carabobo que e donde vivo, casi n se reportaron daños, pero sí que hubo muchas iglesias on este tipo de daños o más leves, entonces yo quise alzar mi voz de alguna manera, en la medida de mis posibilidades para, no solo exponer la situación, sino para dar un contexto histórico.

As you know, I like to use artificial intelligence as a form of support; it’s a tool that allows us—in a sense, and especially in cases like this—to travel back in time and transform everything to look more or less as it did in those years. This makes the experience much more vivid and immersive, because telling you about something isn't the same as "showing" it to you. For this, I use Gemini—the AI application available to us here in Venezuela, since ChatGPT isn't accessible in the country. So, what did I do? I walked through some of the town's streets, took photos, and then enhanced them using this tool to give them that characteristic Latin American colonial style. I also included myself in some of the images to add a more personal touch.
Como ya saben, a mi me gusta usar la inteligencia artificial a modo de apoyo, ya que es una herramienta que nos permite, de cierta manera y muy especialmente en estos casos, viajar al pasado y transformar todo a como se veía más o menos en aquellos años, volviendo la experiencia más gráfica e inmersiva, porque no es lo mismo contarte algo a "mostrarte" algo, y para esto yo uso Gemini que es la aplicación de inteligencia artificial que tenemos disponible en Venezuela, ya que Chat GPT no está disponible en el país. Entonces ¿Qué hice? pues caminé por algunas calles del pueblo, las fotografié y luego las retoqué usando esta herramienta para que tuvieran ese estilo colonial latinoamericano característico, y también me incluí en algunas imagenes para darle un toque más personal.

Essentially, what I aimed to achieve with this documentary was to strengthen the sense of belonging among the people of Montalbán and to foster empathy in those from other regions—especially among ecclesiastical and government authorities—so that they might address this extremely serious problem. For me, this is not merely a matter of faith; it is also a question of a sense of belonging rooted in our historical and cultural heritage—in the history behind every patch of land and every structure, and in all that was done to bring us to this point. It is painful to watch the collapse of a place that has existed since long before one’s grandparents or great-great-grandparents were even born—a place that, throughout one’s childhood, was a destination every single Sunday.
Basicamente lo que quise lograr con el documental fue exhaltar el sentido de pertenencia de los montalbaneros y crear empatía en las personas de otras regiones pero sobre todo en las autoridades tant eclesiasticas com guvernamentales para que se avoquen a la solución del gravisimo problema, porque para mi no es solo una cuestión de fe, es también una cuestión de sentido de pertenencia por aquellos patrimonios históricos y culturales, por la historia que hay detrás de cada pedazo de tierra, de cada estructura, de lo que se hizo para llegar hasta allí, es doloroso ver como se desmorona un espacio que estuvo allí desde mucho antes de que nacieran tus abuelos y tatarabuelos, el lugar al que ibas cada domingo de tu infancia.
