In case you missed my previous posts, I’d like to share some photos of a wonderful place I visited a few days ago. It’s an oasis—a peaceful haven and a green lung amidst the chaos of the city. Behind me stands a *samán* (a tree with a very dense, spreading canopy); this particular one is special because it’s centuries old—it has been growing there for over four hundred years—so if it could talk, it would surely have many fascinating stories to tell. The area is surrounded by lush vegetation, including forests, exotic plants, and flowers, as well as interesting wildlife—such as squirrels, butterflies, herons, and capybaras (which we call *chiguires* in Venezuela). They are incredibly elusive, however, so I wasn’t able to capture any of them in a photograph.
Just look at the diversity of the landscape: there are areas that are almost jungle-like, with vines and reeds and very dense vegetation, while other parts are wooded—where, even though the trees grow close together, they still maintain some distance from one another. The lawn is meticulously maintained, and every species of plant and tree is clearly labeled with its name and relevant information; there’s even a sign with a QR code for further details. But my favorite spot was a kind of meadow filled with beautiful, colorful wildflowers—they came in many different hues, but these were my absolute favorites.
But my favorite part of the entire garden is the butterfly area—it’s actually marked by a pair of iron butterfly wings. I mistakenly thought it was a photo spot where you could pose as if you had "butterfly wings" 😄, but then I realized it was actually marking one of the most beautiful sections of the garden. I tried to capture some butterflies with my camera lens while they were feeding on nectar from the flowers. I only really managed to get a good shot in the very last photo, hehe.
At one point, I came across an artificial lake where some black herons were frolicking; I absolutely loved them—they look gorgeous. These birds are very common, especially in the Venezuelan plains, but for some time now, they have been frequently spotted in cities as well.
Once inside the garden, you almost forget that you are in the middle of the city, surrounded by so much nature and beautiful scenery; yet, upon reaching the edge, you can see the buildings and billboards that remind us of the daily grind and the constant hustle and bustle of the metropolis—a striking contrast that I felt was worth capturing with my camera.
I would definitely love to return to that place to take a break from my routine; every now and then, it’s wonderful for the body, the soul, and the mind—don’t you think?
Thank you very much for letting me share this beautiful place in the middle of my city with you—a spot I would love to return to from time to time.
