As some of you may already know, Harry Potter is my all-time favorite saga, so I love analyzing even the smallest details. It is a series filled with a diverse cast of characters—some more complex than others—who undoubtedly add a great deal of flavor to the plot. Today, we’ll be focusing specifically on the villains. When discussing Harry Potter, the word "villain" often brings just one name to mind: Voldemort (though some prefer not to say it out loud, heh). However, if we dig a little deeper, we realize there are many other villains—some of whom I’d argue are even worse than the main antagonist. So, today I’m going to present a very personal ranking, analyzing all the villains (focusing on the book storylines) from the "least bad" to the absolute worst.
Tal como algunas personas ya deben saber, Harry Potter es mi saga favorita en todo el mundo, así que siempre me gusta analizar hasta los más mínimos detalles, es una saga llena de personajes variopintos, algunos más complejos que otros pero sin duda le dan mucha sazón a la trama. Hoy hablaremos especificamente de villanos, a menudo cuando hablamos de Harry Potter y alguien mencina la palabra "villano" se nos viene a la mente un único nombre, Voldemort, aunque otros prefieran no nombrarlo jeje, pero ciertamente basta con profundizar un poquito para que nos demos cuenta que existen muchos más villanos y que algunos de ellos yo me atrevería a decir que son peores que el principal, así que el día de hoy voy a hacerles un ranking muy personal en el cuál analizaré a tdos los villanos (enfocandome en la trama de los libros) del que consiero menos malo al peor.
7 Dursley's Family (La familia Dursley)
Vernon, Petunia, and their son Dudley are a family of Muggles related to Harry Potter; one need only read the first few chapters of the first book to realize what a terrible family they are. They relegated Harry to sleeping in a cupboard under the stairs, and Petunia withheld information about his true nature—even giving him ridiculous haircuts just to hide his distinctive scar—and dressed him in Dudley’s hand-me-downs. What makes them particularly awful, I think, is the fact that they are Harry’s only direct relatives—the very people who should have loved and protected him most. Yet, they stop short of being the absolute worst, because—as Dumbledore noted in the sixth book, *The Half-Blood Prince*—they did at least provide him with protection, however grudgingly.
Vernon, Petunia y su hijo Duddley son una familia de muggles parientes de Harry Potter, y solo basta con leer los primeros capítulos del primer libro para darse cuenta de que son una familia terrible, incluso relegaron a Harry Potter a dormir en una alacena debajo de la escalera, Petunia le negó a Harry la información acerca de su propia naturaleza (incluso haciéndole cortes de cabello ridiculos solo para tapar su cicatriz particular), le daba la ropa usada de su hijo Duddley, en fin, y creo que lo que los hace partcularmente malos es el hecho de que sean los únicos parientes directos de Harry, es decir, las personas que más lo debían amar y proteger, sin embargo no llegan a ser los peores porque al menos, tal como dijo Dumbledore en el sexto libro (el Principe Mestizo) al menos le brindaron protección, auqnue fuese a regañadientes.
6 Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy was one of the story's antagonists—a spoiled, pampered boy holding deep-seated beliefs that reinforced anti-Muggle (non-magical person) sentiment and a fervent belief in wizarding supremacy. He constantly tormented Harry and even joined the ranks of the Death Eaters; he attempted to assassinate Albus Dumbledore—an endeavor that resulted in serious harm to Katie Bell. However, labeling him a true villain—or at least a particularly dangerous one—would be inaccurate, as he acted based on beliefs imposed by his family rather than out of personal conviction. By the final book, it becomes clear that he never truly wanted to be a Death Eater and that his attempts on Dumbledore's life were driven by the fear of losing his family.
Dracao Malfoy era uno de los antagonistas de la obra, un niño malcriado y mimado, con arraigadas creencias que reforzaban los sentimientos anti muggles (personas sin magia) ferviente defensor de la supremacía mágica. Siempre molestó a Harry e incluso se unió al gremio de mortífagos, intentó asesinar a Albus Dumbledore y en ese intentó llegó a perjudicar gravemente a Katie Bell, no obstante afirmar que es un villano como tal, o al menos uno particularmente peligroso no sería lo más adecuado, ya que él solo actuaba bajolas creencias impuestas por su familia más que por convicción propia, y ya para el último libro queda demostrado que nunca quiso ser un mortífago, y que sus intentos de asesinar a Dumbledore estuvieron condicionados por el miedo a perder a su familia
5 Lucius Malfoy
He is Draco’s father—a manipulative man and a committed Death Eater. He is fiercely classist and obsessed with blood purity, always looking down on those who do not share his views or whom he deems inferior (I truly hated him when he mistreated Dobby, his house-elf). He did not hesitate to pursue and corner Harry and his friends in the Ministry of Magic’s Department of Mysteries, and he threatened the Board of Governors to force Dumbledore’s resignation. Worst of all, he used a young girl (Ginny Weasley) to smuggle an incredibly dangerous object into Hogwarts—one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, a fragment of his soul capable of wreaking havoc, such as opening the Chamber of Secrets and unleashing chaos. Yet, for all that, Lucius remains a coward—someone who would switch sides at the slightest opportunity if it meant avoiding personal harm.
Es el padre de Draco, un hombre manipulador, un mortífago por convicción, es tremendamente clasista y purista, siempre desdeñando a los que no piensan como él o a los que considera inferior, (en serio lo odié cuando maltrató a Dobby, su elfo doméstico) nolo pensó ds veces en perseguir y acorralar a Harry y a sus amigos en el Departamento de Misterios del Ministerio de Magia, amenazó al consejo de padres para forzar la dimisión de Dumbledore, y l peor de todo es que usó a una niña (Ginny Weasley) para infiltrar el Hogwarts un objeto increíblemente peligroso como lo era un horrocrux de Voldemorta, un pedazo de recuerdo que causaría estragos, como abrir la cámarade ls secretos y desatar un caos, sin embargo, aún con todo esto Lucius no deja de ser un cobarde, alguien que a la menor oportunidad cambiaría de bando si con ello puede evitar salir perjudicado.
4 Bellatrix Lestrange
Here we enter the big leagues of villainy; she is related to the Malfoys, being the sister of Narcissa (Lucius's wife and Draco's mother). She is an impulsive woman who is evil by nature—unscrupulous and unstoppable. Moreover, she is terribly sadistic and delights in inflicting suffering on others, yet she is driven above all by the desire to please the object of her obsession: Lord Voldemort.
Aquí ya entramos en las grandes ligas en cuanto maldad se refiere, ella está emparentada con los Malfoy pues es hermana de Narcissa (esposa de Lucius y madre de Draco) Es una mujer impulsiva y malvada por naturaleza, no tiene escrúpulos, no se detiene ante nada, es además terriblemente sádica y disfruta haciendo sufrir a otros, pero sobre todo a ella la mueve las ganas de complacer al objeto de su obsesión, Lord Voldemort.
3 Lord Voldemort
What can I say? This guy is driven solely by absolute evil and a total lack of empathy; he is a horrible being in every sense of the word. He even went so far as to murder his own family and didn't hesitate for a moment when attempting to kill a baby. He is incredibly cunning, and in his youth, he made full use of his gifts for manipulation and persuasion. He went to extreme lengths—truly extreme—in his obsession with becoming powerful and, above all, immortal, making him a dangerous and terrible villain. However—and I ask for the forgiveness of those who might disagree—I do not consider him the worst villain, and you will understand why later on.
¿Qué les puedo decir? A este tipo solo lo mueve la más absoluta maldad y falta de empatía, es un ser horrible en todo el sentido de la palabra, incluso llegó a asesinar a su propia familia, no le tembló el pulso a la hora de intentar asesinar a un bebé, es increíblemente astuto y en sus añs de juventud utilizó sus dotes de manipulación y persuación, fue lejos pero muy lejos en su obseción por volverse poderoso y en especial inmortal, lo cuál lo vuelve un villano peligroso y terrible, no obstante y con el perdón de los que no estén de acuerdo conmigo yo no lo considero el peor villano y más adelante entenderán porqué.
2 Dolores Umbridge
This woman is one of the worst—and I think many would agree with me—especially because she is a hypocrite who sells herself to the highest bidder; if it suits her to defend the Ministry of Magic, she will, but if not, she’ll turn against it. She claims to fight for the good of the wizarding community, but in reality, she is driven only by hatred. According to canon, she is ashamed of her own family and her Muggle origins, which makes her especially despicable; at least Voldemort had a justification according to canon (he was conceived without love, leaving him devoid of empathy), but this woman had no excuse. Furthermore, you never knew where you stood with her; she always wore a smile and pretended to be "kind," but in truth, she was a viper in sheep's clothing. She used every underhanded tactic at her disposal and imposed a totalitarian regime at Hogwarts—in short, she was a true tyrant.
Esta mujer es una de las peores y creo que muchos estarán de acuerdo conmigo, en especial porque es una hipócrita, ella se vende al mejor postor, si le conviene defender al Ministereio de Magia lo hará pero si no estará en su contra, dice luchar por el bien de la comunidad mágica pero en realidad solo la mueve el odio, según el canon ella se averguenza de su propia familia y su origen muggle, lo que la hace especialmente despreciable, al menos Voldemort tenía una justificación según el canon (fue concebido sin amor, lo que lo dejaba carente de empatía) pero esta mujer no tenía excusas, además con ella no sabías a que atenerte, siempre con una sonrisa en el rostro pretendiendo ser "amable" pero realmente era una vívora disfrazada de blanca paloma. Usó a su favor todas sus artimañas e implemento un régimen de poder totalitario en Hogwarts, es decir, era una verdadera tirana.
1 Peter Pettigrew
And believe it or not, I decided to place Peter Pettigrew in the top spot because—despite being a secondary character who almost goes unnoticed, a coward of the worst sort—to me, wickedness is compounded when loyalty is involved; there is no worse villain than a traitor. It is no wonder Dante said the final circle of hell is reserved specifically for them. Pettigrew was a friend to the Potters; they trusted him so implicitly that they didn't even have their wands on them when Voldemort appeared to murder them. He is a mediocre yet opportunistic wizard, driven by fear and aligning himself with whoever can offer him "protection." This makes him—in my view, at least—the worst villain of all, because while everyone tries to guard against a known threat (like the wizards and witches I mentioned earlier in this post), no one ever expects the worst from a friend.
Y aunque muchos de ustedes no lo crean yo decidí ubicar en el primer escaño a Peter Pettigrew porque a pesar de ser un personaje secundario que casi pasa desapercibido, un cobarde de la peor calaña, para mi la maldad se incrementa cuando la lealtad está de por medio, no hay peor villano que un traidor, con razón Dante dijo que el último círculo del infierno está especialmente reservado para ellos. Pettigrew era amigo de los Potter, ellos confiaban tanto en él que ni siquiera tenían su varita consigo cuando Voldemort se apareció para asesinarlos. Es un mago mediocre pero oportunista, se mueve en base al miedo y a favor de quién pueda brindarle "protección" esto lo hace, al menos a mi parecer, el peor villano, porque todo el mundo pretende protegerse de aquel que representa una amenaza (como todos los magos y brujas que mencioné a lo largo de este post) pero nunca esperarían lo peor de un amigo
So, that’s my ranking of villains. There were still plenty left out—this post would never end if I decided to include every single Death Eater—but I only mentioned the ones I consider the most significant. I hope you enjoyed it and will share your thoughts with me.
Y bueno ete ha sido mi ranking de villanos, aun faltaron muchos pero este post no terminaría si decidiera incluir a todos los mortífagos, y de cualquier modo yo solo mencioné a los que considero más relevantes. Espero que les haya gustado y que compartan conmigo su opinión.
