One of the characteristics of cats is that they are extremely clean – I’d say to an excessive degree, as there isn’t a moment of the day when they aren’t grooming themselves. And in this respect, my little cat Aramis is no exception.
Just this week, I had my phone in my hand when I saw her licking herself to clean up, and as the lighting and my proximity allowed me to do so without her feeling intimidated, I managed to capture some of the essence of this art to which she devotes much of her time.
I must admit it was quite an ordeal to get sharp images, as she moves so nimbly that the vast majority of the photos came out blurred, but I’m proud to have managed to get a few that reflect Aramis’s dedication to her personal hygiene.
At times she would pause, as if to catch her breath, before carrying on to finish the cleaning – which on this occasion was limited to her upper body – as she sometimes moves from one position to another with a speed and agility that not even a ninja master could match.
Afterwards, she was so exhausted that she chose to have a good long nap on the edge of my son’s bed, before moving over to the sofa and spending almost the whole afternoon resting, until it was time to eat… or have another bath, ha ha ha.
I found this last photo really funny, as she’s covering her face as if to say, ‘Enough photos for today!’
And although I bathe her once or twice a year in the conventional human way, she’s no doubt convinced that she can do it much better than I can.
