Welcome once again to my blog; today we will be talking about a very interesting Nollywood movie. It is one that directly touches on the kind of lives a lot of people are living, maybe something like the fake life that they often refer to as "fake it till you make it." Well, you will find out more as I continue to dwell on it.
The movie is titled "Queen Latifah." It is a Nigerian movie that tells the story of a lady called Lateefah; she happens to be a very young lady who has built a fake life and a fake impression around herself. She's always dressing nicely and extravagantly; Is mean, she dresses in a way that implies that she's very wealthy when, in the real sense of things, she's not. But then, she knows how to do her things, navigate through them, speak, and live in a way that you would just have to believe that she is who she says she is.
Along the line, she met with a wealthy man, who's indeed wealthy, unlike her, who is faking it. And then they began to get to close to having a relationship together, and there the movie began to take another turn. The man believes she's actually rich like she looks and claims, but some things began to not add up, and this began to raise suspicions and all.
Now, the movie left is to see and watch how that if it is possible to build a genuine relationship while pretending to be who you're not. And to be honest, I very well understand why Lateefah is living that kind of life; she's experienced a lot in life and is just so tired of living in poverty, so she decided to step up her game and began to live the kind of life she always wanted while also believing it is the best way to meet someone of high standards, too.
Of course, the truth came out, and she just had to face the consequences of living a pretentious life. And I must tell you that I really, really enjoyed that movie, even though I felt reluctant at first, the reason being that I'm not so much of a fan of Nollywood's, but then, I found myself watching this and I didn't regret giving it my time.
I love Lateefah so much; that character was acted by Wumi Toriola, and I can say she did give it her best. I love how real she makes her fake life look; you can't help but believe it's true; you can't even think otherwise because she would give you no reasons to. But then, I as well love the contrast in the movie, one was the Lateefah everyone believe was wealthy and well traveled, and then we have the actual Lateefah who's living in an environment that's had to describe. I'm not saying it is bad to want a good and a better life, but then why spend so much of an energy living a fake life and doing all of those things when the same energy could be put into building that exact life you really wanted.
And the calibers of actors this movie contains are ones that are gripping. Talk of Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, Wumi Toriola, Lateef Adedimeji, amongst others, did so well; they all brought their own vibes in and helped make the movie a blockbuster.
Now, I felt a little off at some point; Jide, the rich man, got close to the truth too soon, and when he did, I could actually predict what was going to happen next. There and then the movie seemed to have lost the suspense it had been building. And the way he confronted her, more actions could have been used there, not as if it wasn't good; I just felt it should hit harder than that. Also, Wumi Toriola (Lateefah) didn't seem to really feel regret the way I expected. I understand that the consequences came and she faced them, but then, she didn't show regret the way I would have loved for her to.
But I love the message the movie passed: living a pretentious life is not good, and you can't hide the truth forever; it will always come out some way.
