It’s been a while since I watched movies, maybe because I don’t fancy it, but I came across a thriller snippet on YouTube, titled Missing. I was eager to watch it, so I searched for the thriller and I found it. I would say that the thriller really worth my time. It’s interesting and was filled with suspense, I personally love the storyline.
Missing is a 2023 thriller, and it’s all about A young teenager named June who is 18 years and her mother named Grace. So one day, Grace and Kevin decides to travel to Colombia. June was so excited because she will have the freedom to do whatever she want without her mother supervision. She feels that her mother was always monitoring her, but I believe she’s only trying to protect her.
June had fun with her friends after her mother left, but the fun did not last. She had complicated experiences starting from the day she went to airport to pick up her mother and Kevin. She waited there for long, but they did not arrive. She messaged her mother, but she did not get a reply. She even tried calling her, but number was not reachable. And that’s where the problem start from. Her mother visit to Colombia took an expected turn.
The FBI became aware of the situation. June spoke with them, but she was not comfortable with way they are handling the issue, so she took it upon herself to make the investigation. The interesting part of the thriller was how she managed to use Laptop, phone, emails, social media accounts and security footage to search for her missing mother. She also hired a guy in Colombia named Javier to help her with the investigation, instead of traveling there.
During the investigation, they came across Kevin shady history. He has make use of different names, and this made her think that Kevin might be responsible for the missing of her mother, but then again, another footage showed where Kevin and her mother are being kidnapped, and this made her felt that Kevin was guilty. She was confused about how everything is going, and the more she dig deeper, the more she uncover some secrets. She thought Kevin was guilty, but it turned out that Kevin staged the kidnapping. The woman woman shown in the footage was another woman, not her mother. When the authorities discovered the truth, they looked for Kevin, but he was trying to run away. Unfortunately, he was killed in the process.
The mystery did not end there. After Kevin was gone from the picture, she began to carry deep investigation about her mother. That’s when she discovered that’s her mother has been hiding her identity. She was able to change her identity through her friend, Heather, who was a lawyer. She went ahead to search for Heather, but when she got there, she’s already dead, and this made her understand that someone is trying to stop her from knowing the truth.
While she was still digging through her mother information, she saw the message her father sent to her mother. That’s when she got to know that her father, whom she had always believed was dead, was still alive, and he was even the mastermind behind the whole thing. Honestly, I did not see that part coming.
After she discovered the truth, her father, James, showed up, and he forcefully took her away. She was taken to the same place where her mother was held hostage. June finally found her mother. She untied her, and in the process, James entered the room where they are staying, and he commands June to follow him, but she didn’t. The whole whole situation left June and her mother fighting for their life in the hand on James. When all hope was lost, June used her Apple Watch connected to her phone and instructed Siri to call 911, and before they knew it, the Authorities arrived at the right time. Both June and her mother was saved.
The thing that looks fascinating about this thrillers was how June makes use of technology effectively to search for her missing mother. And it also makes me understand that we might not truly know the identity of the person we think we know, even when they are the closest person to us.
