I don't remember when I first saw this movie but seeing it's release date (2008), I can almost guess I saw it a year or two after it was released and that is to say, it has been so long that I forgot almost totally what I saw in the movie. But music cover post here on Hive reminded me of the movie over a year ago and I decided to re-see it.
As much I did enjoyed some part of the movie, I'm not writing this review to recommend it to anyone because it's an old movie and I can say to an extent that the script wasn't well written, the quality of the video available is bad too, all that won't give you a nice experience of the movie. I enjoyed it because it brought back memories.
Mamma Mia! is a pop-musical, feel-good romance and comedy movie released in the year 2008 starring Meryl Street as Donna, a free-spirited and independent hotelier who is preparing the hotel for her daughter's wedding. Also starring Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, the daughter who is about to get married but more excited to meet her possible dad she had invited.
The story revolves around Donna and Sophie but with their three friends on the sides giving them so much support in their new quests, especially in getting married. The mother and daughter show so much similarity but are so different at the same time, loving each other so much regardless to the point of Sophie considering getting married and staying with mum, Donna.
Like I said, the mother and daughter have so much in common, including the number of closest friends. I couldn't get their actual names but Donna has two old friends who she is so close with, they came around to assist her in preparing for the wedding having no idea what Sophie has as a plan with her two friends involved, the preparations goes on excitedly.
Well, I think the story got tensed a little bit regardless of the music, when the three men who are possibly Sophie's dad arrives at the hotel. Donna meets them and she is thrown in a state of surprise, confusion and fear. Since Sophie doesn't know who are father is among them, she invited all of them but didn't consider how her mother would feel about them. The story still goes well as each of the men hope Sophie is his.
I would have loved for more backstory on how Donna met the three men and why she is so confused on who among them really is her daughter's father (yea, she doesn't know who). Turns out she had sex with all three in the same month. I must say, I learned a lesson from how the daughter didn't judge her mother for such an act and also follow her own path, finding love too.
The story gave a good twist at the end but one viewers would love, still I won't recommend because it's one of those movie you'll say it's just there. I'm still trying to figure out why the name made a trend back then and people actually remember some of the songs in it, I actually remember one but it still doesn't make the story a masterpiece. It's all just fictional, nothing special.
