Hello, dear Hive friends! Today I want to show you how the idea I got from a video is coming along for my cucumber plants.
I would have loved to show you from the very beginning, but I was so eager to get started that I completely skipped the first part of the process, hahaha.
To give you the lowdown, I took several sticks and cut them to size so that when I try to make a sort of ladder out of them, it will be as even as possible, as you can see in the photo.
I took two buckets that were no longer useful, filled them with sand, and topped them off with black soil enriched with compost, which will give my cucumber plants the strength they need to grow. Obviously, they were already well past the germination stage and well on their way because I had already planned to try out this experiment.
These two sticks will help me create the new details I’m going to add to this project—a sort of ladder that also goes up the sides, so the plants will have something to hold onto when they start climbing. I took the measurements and cut them into small pieces; with the help of some wire and pliers, I’ll be able to arrange them carefully.
As you can see, I left a small space between each one, so our plant can be placed there without any difficulty and can grow in the shade—even though this plant doesn't like too much sun, and we're in the middle of the hottest months here in my area.
This is how our new creation turned out in my backyard. I know it would have looked better if I’d had better tools—or maybe better skills—but for now, this is the result of our first step toward creating something different. Seeing it and creating it fills me with pride, because it’s an innovation that could work and be the start of good things to come for us to harvest. I’m proud that it turned out great. I hope to give you an update on this progress soon—and who knows, maybe we’ll even harvest some delicious cucumbers, since it’s a plant that grows quickly and yields good harvests. Thanks for reading this far. I’d love to hear from you in the comments if you’ve seen these ideas in gardens before or if you’d like to try something like this someday. Cheers!!!
