[TV] The Scandal (2026) Korean Drama Review

I just finished watching the Fifth episode and I have really enjoyed it so far. Imagine using someone's heart as a tool in a game, only for the situation to become more complicated than you expected. That is one of the things that made The Scandal an interesting Korean historical drama.

Set during the Joseon Dynasty, the series followed Lady Cho (Son Ye-jin), a clever and ambitious woman who became involved in a dangerous game of seduction with Cho Won (Ji Chang-wook). Their target was Hui-yeon (Nana), a young widow who has promised to remain faithful to her late husband.

What started as a game soon became more complicated because feelings are not always easy to control. Lady Cho seemed to have her own reasons for getting involved, while Cho Won's charm made him an interesting character to watch. Hui-yeon, on the other hand, found herself in a situation that could change her life.

One thing I found interesting was Lady Cho's character. She was intelligent and knew how to use her position to influence situations. Living in a society where women had limited freedom, she was not satisfied with simply accepting whatever life offered her. However, some of her decisions made me wonder how far she was willing to go to get what she wanted.

Cho Won was another character who caught my attention. He was charming and confident, but being good at attracting women did not necessarily mean he understood the consequences of playing with their feelings. Sometimes, people enter situations thinking they have everything under control, only to discover that things are not as simple as they imagined.

I also enjoyed the historical setting, the costumes, and the way the characters interacted with one another. The story was not just about romance; it also explored jealousy, manipulation, reputation, and the expectations placed on women during that period.

Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana made the central characters interesting to follow. Their different personalities added tension to the story, leaving me curious about how their relationships would develop.

However, I am currently on episode five, so I cannot give a final judgment on the entire series. So far, the story has kept me interested, and I want to see how the characters will deal with the consequences of their choices.
