Latin Name Observation Date Location
Neoscona nautica Oct 31, 2026 Natore, Bangladesh

Scientific Name: In the scientific world, this spider is known as Neoscona nautica. In English, they are generally called brown sailor spider or brown orbweaver spider. Family and Genus: According to the classification of the animal kingdom, it is a species of the family Araneidae of the order Araneae and the genus Neoscona.

Origin and Habitat: Although Asia and Pacific island groups are their main native home, later their spread has happened in various regions of the American continent and Sudan as well. In our country's gardens, surroundings of houses, plants, and bushes, they live by naturally weaving webs.

Food: They are spiders of extremely skilled predatory nature. At night or at convenient times, they expertly weave round webs and survive by hunting and eating various kinds of flying insects, mosquitoes, flies, and small bugs trapped in the web.

Reproduction: In suitable environments and safe shelters on tree branches or behind leaves, they lay eggs by making egg sacs or cocoons with silk thread, and in this way, they expand their own lineage.

Benefits: In nature and crop fields, in controlling harmful insects and flying pests, they play a wonderful role as natural biological predators.

Harmful Aspects: They do not cast any kind of harmful effect for humans, domestic animals, or the environment. These are completely harmless and beneficial wild insects.

I learned about them from various sites including iNaturalist, Wikipedia and Google.
