The Sea Doesn't Know How to Play. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Every time the sea gets rough due to bad weather, the waves crash forcefully against the walls of the Malecón in Havana, and far from driving people away because of the danger, this actually attracts children, turning the place into a swimming pool and a playground. It’s very dangerous, because the waves also wash up rocks and other objects, but that doesn’t seem to matter to these kids, who are clearly having the time of their lives. 

Cada vez que el mar se agita por el mal tiempo, el oleaje impacta con fuerza los muros del Malecón en La Habana, y aquello, lejos de alejar a las personas por el peligro, eminentemente lo que hace es atraer a los niños, convirtiendo el lugar en piscina y pista de juegos. Muy peligroso, porque también arroja piedras y objetos las olas, pero aquello no parece importar a estos muchachos que evidentemente están pasando sus mejores horas. 

For years, the scene has repeated itself; with every cold front from the north or storm, the area turns into an open-air swimming pool. There have been many accidents—people have even lost their lives—but that doesn’t seem to leave a mark on the collective memory. Is it the thrill of danger or the lack of recreational spaces for these children? What do you think about this?

Por años el panorama se repite; con cada frente frío del norte o tempestad, aquello es una piscina al aire libre. Ha habido muchos accidentes; incluso personas han perdido la vida, pero eso no parece dejar huellas en la memoria colectiva. ¿Será la emoción del peligro o la falta de lugares de recreación para estos niños? ¿Qué piensas al respecto?
