Recently, I found a movie that caught my attention, mostly because of its plot—filled with mystery and a storyline that could be considered completely crazy, something that could only happen with characters who aren't quite sane. The movie is called HEEL, directed by Jan Komasa, who takes the idea of changing a character in a rather obsessive and sinister way. I invite you to read my review 👀⛓️
The plot focuses on the life of Tommy, a wild young man addicted to drugs who spends his days getting lost in parties, alcohol, and illicit substances, leading him to a meaningless routine and a path of self-destruction that would end in the worst possible way... were it not for someone watching his behavior and the way he lives his life. That someone is an unknown man who is going to try to integrate him into his family and drastically change his wandering behavior.
The family is quite unbalanced, which is clear from the way they interact with each other. They bring a drugged Tommy to their house and lock him in a basement where he is chained up, and he truly thinks he has been kidnapped. The truth is that it is a kidnapping because it's against his will; however, for this family, having him there is normal and even a good thing because that way they will save his life and turn him into a good boy, just as they repeat in multiple ways throughout the film.
The psychological aspect is very intense, as we watch someone trying to regain his freedom while being punished, beaten, and even forced to pretend his behavior is changing just to escape that place. A woman with a very depressing appearance lives in that house, along with a boy who always behaves well. The father is the one in charge of giving Tommy "affection" so that a psychological shift can occur in him to avoid repeating his old life patterns.
It is overwhelming to watch this story; it makes you feel uncomfortable, and you even end up asking yourself why this family would kidnap someone just to change him. However, there is a theory that they might have had a son who went down the wrong path and whose life they couldn't save, so they are trying to regain part of what they once had. It's an extremely crazy and weird story to watch, but it's worth it, even if the ending leaves you wondering whether it was a good outcome or not so much.
It seems that, in a way, the story tries to convey the message that you can change your life, though the way they present the plot doesn't quite sit right with me. Still, the performances were incredible and every scene was worth it. It was truly strange, but within the drama and psychological thriller genres, it stands out as different from other movies I've seen. I recommend watching it patiently and drawing your own conclusions; it's worth a watch, even if it feels overwhelming to see the main character go through so many strange situations.

¡Hola amigos amantes del cine y la televisión! Espero que estén muy bien. Hace poco encontré una película que me llamaba la atención sobre todo por la trama, llena de misterio y de una historia que podría considerarse muy loca y que solo podría pasar dentro de personajes no muy cuerdos. La película se llama HEEL y es del director Jan Komasa quien toma una idea de cambiar a un personaje de una forma un tanto obsesiva y siniestra. Los invito a leer mi reseña 👀⛓️
La trama se centra en la vida de Tommy, un joven desenfrenado adicto a las drogas que pasa sus días perdiéndose en fiestas, alcohol y sustancias ilícitas que lo llevan a un día a día sin sentido y una destrucción que terminaría de la peor manera... Si no fuese porque hay alguien observando su comportamiento y su manera de llevar su vida. Ese alguien es un hombre desconocido que va a intentar integrarlo dentro de su familia y cambiar de la manera más drástica su comportamiento errante.
La familia es bastante desequilibrada, se puede notar en cómo se relacionan entre sí. Llevan a Tommy drogado a su casa y lo encierran en un sótano donde está encadenado y realmente el piensa que lo tienen secuestrado. Y la verdad es que si es un secuestro porque es en contra de su voluntad, sin embargo para esta familia es algo normal y hasta bueno el tenerlo allí porque así van a salvar su vida y a convertirlo en un buen chico tal y cómo lo repiten en la película de múltiples maneras.
La parte psicológica es muy fuerte, porque vemos a alguien que está intentando recuperar su libertad siendo castigado, golpeado y hasta obligado a fingir que su comportamiento está cambiando para así poder escaparse de ese lugar. En esa casa vive una mujer que tiene un aspecto muy deprimente y también está un niño que se comporta siempre de buena manera. El padre es quien se encarga de que Tommy reciba "cariño" y de esta manera pueda surgir un cambio en el psicológicamente para no repetir los viejos patrones de su vida.
Es agobiante ver esta historia, te hace sentir incómoda y hasta te llegas a preguntar por qué esta familia tendría que secuestrar a alguien solo con la idea de querer cambiarlo. Pero hay una teoría sobre que pudieron haber tenido un hijo que estuvo en malos pasos, y que de alguna manera no pudieron salvarle la vida. Y de esta forma están intentando recuperar parte de lo que alguna vez tuvieron. Es algo sumamente loco y extraño ver esta historia pero vale la pena aunque el final te deja pensando en si fue algo bueno o no tan bueno.
Parece que de alguna manera te da a entender en la historia que el mensaje es que puedes cambiar tu vida, solo que no me cuadra la forma en la que presentan la trama. Pero las actuaciones estuvieron increíbles y cada escena valió la pena, realmente fue extraña pero dentro de el género de drama y thriller psicológico es diferente a las demás películas que he visto. Les recomiendo verla con calma y sacar sus propias conclusiones, vale la pena verla aunque se sienta agobiante ver cómo el protagonista pasa por tantas situaciones raras.
