Como siempre, me gusta participar en los concursos de la comunidad y esta vez @priyanarc nos lleva a reflexionar con dos preguntas diferentes, pero que son bastante necesarias a la hora de saber cómo hemos llevado nuestra vida y qué es aquello que pensamos que es un lujo innecesario pero que, por presión social, llegamos a buscar obtener. Me gustaría invitar a @mandysmoon y a @sacra97 para que también participen en este nuevo concurso 🥰.

As always, I love taking part in the community’s contest, and this time @priyanarc invites us to reflect on two different questions – questions that are actually quite important when it comes to analysing how we’ve been living our lives and what we consider to be an unnecessary luxury but which, due to social pressure, we end up seeking out. I’d like to invite @mandysmoon and @sacra97 to take part in this new contest too 🥰.

If your camera roll could tell your life story, what would it reveal about you? Forget the carefully chosen Instagram photos for a moment. Think about the random pictures, screenshots, selfies, places, meals, people, and little everyday moments you have captured. What would someone learn about you just by scrolling through your camera roll?
Siempre me ha gustado tomar fotografías. Recuerdo que desde que tengo uso de razón encontraba la manera de hacerlo, ya sea mediante cámaras digitales de esas que eran muy de la época de los 2000. En esos tiempos, tener una cámara digital era lo mejor porque podías guardar después todas esas imágenes dentro de un pendrive o una computadora. Recuerdo que en mi época del colegio solía tomarles muchas fotos a mis compañeros; también en reuniones familiares era la fotógrafa, jaja. Siento que parte de mí sabía que no volvería a vivir ciertos momentos, por lo que buscaba una forma de guardar esos recuerdos aunque fuese a través de una imagen.
También gracias a mi mamá tengo muchas fotos de su juventud, de mis tíos, de mi abuela, de momentos en los que tal vez no estuve porque ni siquiera había nacido. Ver esas fotos mantenerse a pesar de tantos años que han pasado me parece una forma increíble de recordar aunque no estuviese presente, y también de ver qué cosas hacían mis padres antes de que nosotros, sus hijos, naciéramos. Hay fotos de todo tipo: de cumpleaños, de fiestas de graduación, de viajes... Me siento afortunada de tener todas esas fotografías y poder, aunque sea, recordar a través de ellas todos esos tiempos que en su mayoría fueron bastante especiales.
El carrete de mi vida revelaría que era una niña muy divertida, que me gustaba salir mucho con mis papás, que me encantaba ir a la escuela, que disfrutaba de estar con mis hermanos y que apreciaba mucho tener a mi abuela materna presente en mi vida. También mostraría que en la adolescencia buscaba la forma de guardar momentos a través de la cámara para recordar esas etapas que fueron bonitas y que tuvieron todo tipo de emociones; también que disfrutaba muchísimo de poder sacar una fotografía y que se viera como si fuese profesional. Con el tiempo he dejado de tomar fotos, pero aún me gusta hacerlo en algunos momentos. Creo que es uno de los tesoros más preciados que tengo: volver el tiempo atrás y ver que la vida siempre fue sublime y estuvo llena de historias para contar.
I’ve always loved taking photographs. I remember that for as long as I can remember, I’d find a way to do it, whether it was with those digital cameras that were so typical of the 2000s. Back then, having a digital camera was the best thing ever because you could save all those pictures onto a USB stick or a computer afterwards. I remember that when I was at school I used to take loads of photos of my classmates; I was also the photographer at family gatherings, haha. I feel that part of me knew I’d never experience certain moments again, so I looked for a way to preserve those memories, even if it was just through a photograph.
It’s also thanks to my mum that I have lots of photos of her youth, of my uncles and aunts, of my grandmother, and of moments I might not have been there for because I hadn’t even been born yet. Seeing those photos still around after so many years have passed strikes me as an incredible way to remember those times, even though I wasn’t there, and also to see what my parents used to do before we, their children, were born. There are all sorts of photos: of birthdays, graduation parties, trips… I feel lucky to have all those photographs and to be able, even if only a little, to remember through them all those times, most of which were quite special.
A look back at my life would reveal that I was a very fun-loving little girl, that I loved going out with my parents, that I adored going to school, that I enjoyed spending time with my siblings, and that I really appreciated having my maternal grandmother in my life. It would also show that, as a teenager, I looked for ways to capture moments through the camera to remember those beautiful stages of my life, which were full of all sorts of emotions; and that I really enjoyed being able to take a photograph that looked as if it had been taken by a professional. Over time, I’ve stopped taking photos, but I still like to do so on occasion. I think it’s one of the most precious treasures I have: being able to look back and see that life was always wonderful and full of stories to tell.
¿Cuál es un “lujo” que crees que está completamente sobrevalorado? Podría ser cualquier cosa que la gente vea como un símbolo de una vida cómoda o exitosa, como un bolso de diseñador, una casa enorme, unas vacaciones costosas, restaurantes elegantes o incluso algo mucho más simple. ¿En qué no gastarías tu dinero, incluso si pudieras permitírtelo? ¿Y por qué?
What is one “luxury” that you think is completely overrated? It could be anything people see as a symbol of a comfortable or successful life — like a designer handbag, a huge house, expensive holidays, fancy restaurants, or even something much simpler. What’s something you wouldn’t spend your money on, even if you could afford it? And why?
Creo que parte de lo que es un lujo sobrevalorado es estar cambiando constantemente de objetos tecnológicos. Pienso que mientras algo sea de calidad y sirva de forma correcta, no hay necesidad de estar siempre cambiando de dispositivo. Entre esos entrarían los teléfonos: hay personas que cambian de teléfono como si fuera algo indispensable, cuando en realidad muchas veces el que tienen está muy bien y no hay una razón lógica de por qué debería ser cambiado. A mí me encanta la sensación de tener un teléfono nuevo, pero como sé que todo requiere de esfuerzo y de dinero, pienso que no hay que ser tan compulsivos ni gastar tanto en ese tipo de cosas mientras no sea una necesidad prioritaria. Creo que hay cosas más importantes, como poder costear consultas médicas, permitirte comer la comida que te gusta o pagar por cosas que nos puedan ayudar a mejorar como personas y profesionales, ya sea haciendo cursos o diplomados, entre otros. Esa es mi manera de pensar; quién sabe si tuviera mucho dinero en qué cosas innecesarias gastaría 👀😂.
I think part of what constitutes an overrated luxury is constantly changing your tech gadgets. I reckon that as long as something is good quality and works properly, there’s no need to keep changing devices. This includes mobile phones: there are people who change their phones as if it were an absolute necessity, when in reality the one they have is often perfectly fine and there’s no logical reason why it should be replaced. I love the feeling of having a new phone, but as I know that everything requires effort and money, I don’t think we should be so compulsive or spend so much on that sort of thing unless it’s a priority. I think there are more important things, such as being able to afford medical appointments, treating yourself to the food you like, or paying for things that can help us improve as people and professionals – whether that’s taking courses or diploma programmes, amongst other things. That’s how I see it; who knows what unnecessary things I’d spend money on if I had loads of it 👀😂.
