Hello, fans of great music. We’re back for another Tuesday with more great music from yours truly in this special weekly column. Today, before Tuesday comes to an end for me, I’d like to share a special little list of three songs by one of my favorite Rock bands. But first, I want to remind you that this segment exists thanks to the weekly contest that our friend @ablaze always brings us in the Music community, called Three Tunes Tuesday.
Getting back to the main topic, the band I want to talk to you about tonight is none other than Fall Out Boy, an American Rock band that formed in 2001 and rose to popularity in 2005 thanks to the release of their second studio album. I discovered them almost a decade later, right around the time I was finishing high school, and I got hooked on their rhythm and sound—a mix of Punk, Pop, and Emo with some alternative twists. Next, I want to tell you about their most popular singles on my Playlist.
Centuries - Fall Out Boy

Let’s start with a single that’s been making waves since it was released a little over a decade ago. It’s a powerful, energetic, and emotional song by Fall Out Boy that has left its mark on an entire generation of young people like me. “Centuries” is the first single from the band’s sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho (2015). The song is known for its rhythm and melody, which create a sense of euphoria thanks to how energetic and catchy it is, blending Alternative Rock with Pop and electronic sounds.
“Centuries” speaks to us about legacy—a way for our name to endure for “centuries” in people’s memories. The song begins by talking about legends that are told—people who have turned to dust or people who have turned to gold—a way of describing the value of their contributions. The chorus affirms that the speaker is expressing a desire to become a legend, someone who will be remembered for generations, whether for their good deeds or their mistakes.
I admit that very few have managed to “go down in history” through their actions, their careers, or anything else that makes them relevant. But this song serves as a kind of motivation—a way to view life as an opportunity to leave something behind before we die: a legacy, a memory, a story about who we are, who we were, or who we want to be in the future. I really like the song’s catchy beat—I’ll say it again—especially the way the chorus starts with the singer humming, whose voice radiates energy.
Irresistible - Fall Out Boy

The following song may not be as well-known or popular as its predecessor became. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t one of my favorites from this particular album, which features some really great Fall Out Boy songs. We’re talking about “Irresistible,” the second single from their sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho (2015). It’s a song that maintains the energy and rhythm we’ve heard before, but with a slightly more elaborate production and melody.
The lyrics of “Irresistible” tell the story of a rather special relationship—one we could easily describe as toxic in every sense of the word. We can confirm this from what the narrator describes throughout the song, using phrases with certain metaphors that depict, in a somewhat exaggerated way, how our protagonist feels when he’s with the person he loves so much. We learn that, despite the pain she causes him, her personality and appearance obsess him and make him revel in the pain she inflicts. That’s right—it sounds like a song about a masochist and a toxic girl.
This is even confirmed by the line in the chorus that goes: “I love the way, I love the way, I love the way you hurt me, baby.” And it may be that some of us have been in a somewhat toxic relationship like the one described in such detail in this song. But in reality, we all know that no relationship is 100% healthy in this life. We all have to suffer and make sacrifices to be with the person we love, but the question is whether that other person feels the same way we do.
I love the way, I love the way,I love the way you hurt me, baby”.
Alone Together - Fall Out Boy

To wrap up this very special list, I couldn’t think of a better way to do it than by telling you about my favorite Fall Out Boy song. It’s the song that first introduced me to the band a little over a decade ago, and it brings back a flood of memories along with a huge wave of nostalgia. The song I’m talking about is “Alone Together,” the third single from the band’s fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll (2013). Its lyrics, rhythm, and sound—which blend Rock and Pop in a magnificent way—are what completely captivated me.
“Alone Together” obviously speaks to us about companionship—whether it’s a romantic relationship, a friendship, and so on. However, when we delve a little deeper into what certain parts of the lyrics might mean, everything points to it being a romantic relationship—but one that transcends society, the need for acceptance, or the pressure to follow trends or fashions. Lines like “let’s be alone together (yeah), we could stay young forever (yeah)” clearly indicate that the song is about a young person seeking “solitude,” but with a special companion who understands him perfectly.
This can be applied to different types of relationships and friendships where understanding, mutual acceptance, and communication are paramount. Solitude is a strong theme in this song, used as a form of escape and isolation from society, life, or reality itself—with all the problems it entails. We’d all like to find a space or a place in the company of someone special where we can be “alone together” without anyone interrupting or bothering us.
