Bringing Back Yesterday

Gone were the days when things we so different. We were all born in a different time and this means that things were different for all us of. How we may have experienced life might have also been totally different. I grew up in a time where I would say things were a lot better than it is now. When I say this, I mean everything was a lot better. The economy was good, life was great and everyone lived as one big family as compared to today’s world where everyone is just doing his own thing. Sadly, the world changes, things evolve and as all these happen around us, we as humans are forced to some extent to also adjust.

Truth being told, I don’t even know where most of my childhood friend are now because life has taken us all to different directions which is totally fine. But then again, even the friends I have as adults are also mostly nowhere to be found. It’s more like a very one is just doing his thing without even thinking of their other relationship. I understand that we may all be trying to find our way in life and build a better life for ourselves, but this isn’t how life should be lived, ideally.

Growing up, my mom had a job and so did my dad. They were busy people but I tell you they always had time for myself and my siblings, their family, friends and everyone in their community. They found a way to build their life while also actively being involved in a community. Building your life is a really good thing but you know that sense of belonging, nothing beats it.

When I was younger, I remember how myself, my cousins and my neighbors kids used to gather around my grandmother or any adult around just to hear some nigh stories, play games and then go to bed. Today, kids don’t even know their cousin talk less of their grand parents. They don’t even know their own traditions and a whole lot. Sadly, no one seems to think this is something we are losing track of.

If there was one thing I could bring back, it would be the sense of community and togetherness we all had a felt growing up. In our quest to have a better life for ourselves and our families, we forget that this world we live in is all about people. We need people as much as they need us. I want everyone of us to be able to feel safe in our own homes and communities because we know that people have got our backs. I want us all to be able to experience the love and comfort we all wish to experience instead of committing suicide and I want us all to close from work and be on our way home knowing we have a whole community of people rooting for us.

If this isn’t the beauty of life, I don’t know what is and no amount of money can buy that. Having a balance between our busy lives and our socials lives is very important and I wish for us all to have that.
