Prison: A Place for Punishment or Transformation?

The world we live in today is very far from perfect. We have good people and as alway, we should als expect to have bad people around us. I’ve had people tell me I’m too self conscious and I always say it’s because I’ve had not so good encounters that I didn’t ever think I will have to go through because apparently not everyone in this world is a good person.

We have hardened criminals around us day in day out and the funny part is, what or who they are isn’t written on their face. People are raping other people, others are killing over the least thing and then we have those who steal like it’s no body’s business. And that’s why I am always extra careful everywhere I go or I find myself especially given the fact that I’m a woman. I have no training on how to fight off a thief or someone trying to kill me. At least I now have a pepper spray but what even shows that I’ll get the balls to use it when the need arises.

Life is unpredictable and as you are out there with a clean heart, don’t assume everyone is. If the world was a safe place, we wouldn’t have prisons full of people. Everyday, we have people being sent to jail for one or two things. Some of them are actually guilty while others are there due to circumstances. There are innocent people in jail all because they found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But for those that have actually committed crimes are sent to prison to serve their time, what is the purpose of the time spent there. Some people see it as a punishment but I prefer to see it as a second chance. If it were the olden days, some crimes are only punishable by death. So, if you commit a very huge crime and find yourself in jail, see it as a second chance and as a chance to chance and do the right thing.

Prison shouldn’t be all about punishment but also about rehabilitation and personal growth. I get that those in there might have wronged others in on way or the other, that’s why God talks about forgiveness because people can do you harm that you may never want to forgive. But believe me, time heals all wounds to some extent and you’d even want to free yourself of carrying the burden of another persons actions towards you.

So, you on the outside should try to forgive the person on the other end for your own sanity and hope they change for the better. People will always hurt us in one way or the other. But what we choose to do with that hurt is what truly defines who we are. In all these, justice must be served while also protecting people and working towards ridding our society of criminals.

Life will only get better if we choose to see things in a good light . Your heart will thank you for that.

It's impossible to actually get a perfect world but we can only try and one of the ways we can try is by rehabilitating criminals.

Yeah, justice indeed must be served, I just feel justice isn't the way it used to be or the way it should be, some offenders aren't even supposed to be serving jail terms, some should have been taking out immediately they commit an offense because of how grievous their offense is, but then, rehabilitation is good too, at least for someone who had shown remorse and ready to be a better person.

    Thanks for sharing. ❤️❤️❤️
