Good evening, blog friends; I’m back to review another thriller I’ve read recently. It has a fairly straightforward plot: a group of strangers finds itself trapped in a luxury hotel—cut off from the outside world with no phone signal—in the middle of a snowstorm. The cast of characters is diverse: there’s Gwen, a lovely, vulnerable young woman who decided to escape the city chaos with her friend Riley, a war journalist suffering from PTSD. Then there are Henry and Beverly, a couple trying to salvage their crumbling marriage. We also meet two other couples: Ian and Lauren, spouses simply looking to enjoy a peaceful vacation, and Dana and Matthew, a wealthy engaged couple busy planning their lavish and stressful wedding. Finally, there’s David, a criminal defense lawyer fleeing a scandal and a sordid personal affair, and Candice, a true-crime writer just trying to work in peace and quiet.
At the hotel, however, there are only two staff members: James—the owner and chef—and his son, Bradley. At first, the vacation seems like a dream; the hotel is stunning—a small, luxurious gem amidst the snow, a fairytale setting—yet within this dream, some are battling their own nightmares. Gwenn is grappling with a fractured friendship with Riley, who is fighting the demons of her past in war-torn countries. Henry and his wife are struggling to save a crumbling marriage; she hopes the trip will mark a fresh start, while he sees it only as the beginning of the end. David is fighting murder allegations leveled against him; meanwhile, he strikes up a connection with Gwenn, though a friend warns her not to trust him. The other couples appear calm on the surface, and the writer keeps to herself. The situation takes a drastic turn when Dana—a wealthy woman who had just gotten engaged—is found dead at the bottom of the luxurious staircase. Everyone is shaken by the incident, but David, who is well-versed in murder cases, immediately suspects foul play; naturally, the prime suspect is Matthew, the deceased woman's wealthy fiancé. Yet the killing spree has only just begun: after Dana, the poor writer falls victim, strangled with a scarf. Now, fear and suspicion grip everyone; no one feels safe anymore, and they begin to wonder if a killer is lurking in the shadows of the hotel.
Furthermore, due to the blizzard, they are completely cut off and without power; the cold, fear, and tension begin to take hold. Everyone is on edge, and as secrets and old grudges surface, individuals start revealing their pasts. Trust evaporates, and the death toll begins to rise. It is a simple, enjoyable book; while the plot is fairly conventional, it makes for a pleasant read—not among the best thrillers I’ve read, but certainly not the worst, either. Tiene una trama bastante sencilla: un grupo de desconocidos queda atrapado en un hotel de lujo —aislado del mundo exterior y sin cobertura telefónica— en plena tormenta de nieve. El elenco de personajes es variado: está Gwen, una joven encantadora y vulnerable que decidió escapar del caos de la ciudad junto a su amiga Riley, una corresponsal de guerra que padece estrés postraumático. También están Henry y Beverly, una pareja que intenta salvar su matrimonio en crisis. Conocemos además a otras dos parejas: Ian y Lauren, esposos que simplemente buscan disfrutar de unas vacaciones tranquilas, y Dana y Matthew, una pareja adinerada y comprometida que está ocupada organizando su lujosa y estresante boda. Por último, están David, un abogado penalista que huye de un escándalo y de un sórdido asunto personal, y Candice, una escritora de crónica negra que solo intenta trabajar en paz y tranquilidad.

Ahora, el miedo y la sospecha se apoderan de todos; nadie se siente seguro y empiezan a preguntarse si un asesino acecha entre las sombras del hotel.
Además, debido a la ventisca, quedan totalmente incomunicados y sin electricidad; el frío, el miedo y la tensión empiezan a apoderarse de la situación. Todos están nerviosos y, a medida que salen a la luz secretos y viejos rencores, los personajes comienzan a revelar su pasado. La confianza se desvanece y el número de víctimas empieza a aumentar.
