Turning Cauliflower from My Little Garden into "Fake" Fried Chicken

20261003_121455.jpg

I usually just stir-fry cauliflower with various other ingredients—a simple, quick dish. But this time, I wanted to do something different and turn the cauliflower into a special treat that’s perfect for snacking or enjoying with rice.

I’m making use of the cauliflower from the garden; after stir-frying a whole head with bok choy yesterday, I plan to create a dish today that is even more delicious than yesterday's stir-fry.

If you’re a cauliflower lover, you might have seen my previous post about harvesting cauliflower from the small garden next to my house. Since I have plenty of time at home today, I’ve decided to cook it up. Cauliflower is incredibly quick to prepare, especially when fried like this. I’ve made batter-fried broccoli before, but this time I’m trying cauliflower with a completely different flavor profile.

I’m combining it with simple seasonings to create a dish that tastes just like fried chicken—a sort of "mock fried chicken." Curious about the recipe? Let’s check out the step-by-step instructions below.

Ingredients

200 grams cauliflower 3 tablespoons wheat flour 2 tablespoons cornstarch Breadcrumbs (as needed) 3 red chilies 1 bird's eye chili 2 cloves garlic 1 shallot ¼ teaspoon coriander ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon mushroom bouillon

Preparation

Blend the chilies, garlic, shallot, and coriander with a little water until smooth, then mix the paste with the two types of flour.

Cut the cauliflower into florets, keeping only the flowery tops with their stems.

Mix the cauliflower into the batter you just prepared, ensuring everything is evenly coated.

The result looks beautiful; the frying process went perfectly, and the color turned out just right. The final result was incredibly satisfying; before taking any photos, I tried a piece—wow, it was absolutely delicious. It really tastes like enjoying crispy, spicy fried chicken. It’s not overly spicy, but just right; I think this would make for a quick and easy meal to serve with rice. For a healthier option, cooking it in an air fryer would likely be better.

You simply must try this crispy fried cauliflower with these seasonings. I’m sure you’ll love it. If you’re in a rush, you could use a ready-made vegan all-purpose flour mix to speed things up. However, I think grinding the spices and adding that personal touch I described earlier will be much more rewarding for you. Give it a try—I’m certain you can do it.
