This summer I tried to visit many canyons and lakes located at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. Last week, I noticed that Göynük Canyon, which I hiked through, had undergone many changes. Antalya, with its sea, nature, location, and climate, offers us plenty of alternative hiking and hiking destinations.
Göynük Canyon, accessible from Antalya city center via the Kemer-Kumluca road, is a unique and beautiful route always waiting to be discovered, offering all the beauties of nature together, with lush green landscapes and impressive rock formations. Here you can both hike and zipline over the canyon and enter its ice-cold water.
When I bought my ticket to see the canyon at the ticket office, I immediately noticed the change in the air, nature, and atmosphere as soon as I entered. Escaping the scorching heat that enveloped Antalya, I started walking along the dirt path through the pine trees, feeling the effect of the wind blowing from the majestic mountains. On the right side of the wide dirt path I was walking on were pine trees and majestic mountains, and on the left side was the stream bed formed by the ice-cold water flowing from the canyon. The surroundings were silent. Occasionally, I could hear the sounds of birds and the gurgling of flowing water. I walked slowly, without rushing, along the path. Along some sides of the path were wooden figures and symbols representing various animal and bird species.
Etraf sessizdi. Arada kuş sesleri ve akan suyun şırıltı sesi geliyordu. Yol boyunca acele etmeden yavaş yavaş yürüdüm. Yolun bazı kenarlarında ahşaptan yapılmış hayvan ve kuş türlerini simgeleyen şekil ve semboller vardı.
I had reached the first section of the canyon and the area where people enter the water. There are cafes and businesses here. They've created special areas for nature lovers and tourists. On one side, people were entering the cold water, and on the other, people were ziplining over that same cold water. It's almost impossible to walk here while looking where you're going... at least that's what I think. The magnificent and impressive views of the cliffs rising along the way, the soothing sound of the water flowing beside the path, and the greenery surrounding it are truly worth seeing. From this first area, people are taken up to see the main canyon by off-road vehicles. You can also walk up this winding, uphill path if you wish. I went up by vehicle and walked down the way back. Walking this path and seeing and feeling the beauty of the surrounding mountains, pine trees, and flowing water was very enjoyable.
We had arrived at the main part of the canyon, what we call the Grand Canyon. Here, those who wish can take a boat tour to see the inside of the canyon. But I preferred to swim to where the water flows. You can't go all the way into the canyon by boat. But by swimming, you can see where the water actually flows. There was only one problem here: enduring the coldness of the water. The water is really very cold, and you need to get used to it a bit. While swimming, we occasionally stood up and walked in the shallow, cold water. You can't see the sun because of the rocks. Imagine you're moving through the water, trapped between two steep, high white cliffs. The views are beautiful; in fact, there was one view that could be called a miracle of nature. A large rock had fallen and was stuck between two rocks like a bridge, and I saw green grass growing on top of the rock.
We were swimming and walking in shallow areas towards the Grand Canyon. Water was slowly seeping through cracks in the rocks of the high cliffs rising beside us. It was very clean and clear water. We drank from it. This waterway had become an integral part of our trip. With every step, there were other rocks and small trees clinging to them.

Over the years, the way the flowing water shaped the rocks, the way trees and grasses found their place among these rocks, and the visual spectacle created by the flowing water filled one with a great sense of awe.
Taking a break during this challenging and strenuous swim and hike to slow down, look around, and occasionally cool off by jumping into the water to witness the miracle of nature was an unforgettable experience for me. This hike has become one of the routes I will never forget in my memory. Lots of love to all of you.
Hepinize sevgiler.
