When I was first admitted to the university two years back, I thought I was done with isolation and my parents controlling me around.
Because at home, I must be home before 8 p.m., and my circle is well defined: home to school, to the library, and back home. No plus or minus.
After entering the university, I was happy I got to go wherever I wanted and come back at my will.
I'm naturally not interested in an irresponsible lifestyle. And I'm beginning to think that was probably the reason my parents were strict with me, so I wouldn't change. Well, reason best known to them.
I thought higher institution would be harder than what I'm experiencing presently, but it's not, and actually, I know why.
I'm not trying to act Merlin, but I had a good foundation from my previous level of institution, and I wouldn't spare to proclaim that my school gives answers to students during the international exam so they wouldn't fail.
I hate what is going on, and I made up my mind that I'm not going to partake in this.
As a result, I worked my ass off to study like hell, and by the end, the results were out. I passed. When my mother came to pay me a visit, she took off late, so she arrived at my place around past 9. She took me by surprise, but I wasn't home. At least, Mummy could have called me; she didn't. She waited patiently for my return.
I came back, and she welcomed me warmly, to my surprise. Trust me, it was unusual of her. The familiar energy I know is a banta of quarrels on me. "No, I will not pretend all is normal, Mummy. You are not mad at me?" I said. She said no. But why? We went inside, and I offered her a glass of juice. She said all the restrictions they were showing me back then were done primarily to clean their names. Hacking to them remained my choice, so that if I played the stubborn girl, deep down I would still know it's not what they wanted for me and give them their respects.
I didn't really process that, and I'm not sure if she is saying the right thing.
But that was what we discussed. She spent three days and returned home.
A typical African mother can easily relate to this.
