Sometimes you stop to look at the map of your own life and realize you spend your time opening and closing doors without paying too much attention to the journey. Over the years, the answers that seemed so clear and unquestionable in youth start to blur, and you learn the hard or the easy way that inhabiting yourself is not a fixed state, but a constant exercise of feeling your way through. Crossing certain thresholds doesn't happen by chance; it is rather a conscious decision to draw the line, take a deep breath, and look for a little bit of refuge amid the constant noise outside.

If I stop to think calmly and ask myself whether I've discovered the channel I predominantly use to connect with myself, the answer is immediate: my natural refuge runs through writing, reading, and visual sensitivity. For me, sitting down to pour ideas onto paper or a screen is not an elegant hobby or an office task; it is a genuine safety valve. It is the exact place where emotions find permission to pause without anyone rushing them, where the mental clutter of day-to-day life quiets down, and where time, for a long while, stops rushing forward. It is the language through which I manage to translate what daily chaos silences in me.

However, living with others or relating to people means constantly bumping into different communication channels, and that is where things get interesting. In my day-to-day life, for instance, I clearly notice how some people around me communicate from a purely practical, direct place, where reflective detours or aesthetic details simply do not exist. While my head is spinning around nuances, a specific atmosphere, or how a story made me feel, the other person is sorting out the hard, pure logistics of the moment. At first, those intersections cause a bit of a short circuit, because you feel like you are being spoken to in a completely foreign language.

And you find yourself thinking: how would the next conversation change if I truly tried to speak in the other person's sensory channel? It would probably transform the dynamic entirely. The big problem is that we usually default to demanding that we be understood in our own emotional dialect, instead of making the honest effort to cross the street. When you slow down the rush, lower the volume of your own certainties, and agree to listen from the other person's logic—even if it comes from absolute practicality or the need for total silence—everyday friction stops being a silly annoyance and turns into a real bridge of understanding.

Besides words, my personal map has other equally sacred corners that bring me back to my center. I am deeply saved by cozy spaces, a good cup of coffee without rushing, cheerful music when it's time to shake off the weight of routine, and the certainty that I don't need a millimeter-perfect blueprint to live in peace. I prefer to accept that I like life with a touch of improvisation, knowing that plans can change halfway through and that, in the end, that is what leaves the best stories to tell.

Recognizing these entrances and exits in our particular map helps us not to get lost in the transitions of maturity. In the end, it is not about having everything figured out or living with a manual under our arm, but about knowing which doors we can always return to when we need to remind ourselves who we really are.

¿Me explico?
