Our Walk Through Armando Zuluaga Blanco Square (Eng/Esp)

English version

Baby Bee is the perfect adventure companion, so today we got ready to go for a walk and headed to Plaza del Estudiante. Her joy and curiosity were the perfect fuel to make this outing both exciting and fun. Even though there were no swings, the little one had a blast playing all over the place.

Alma quickly explored the area because she was looking for an amusement park with swings, slides, and even a ball pit. When she didn’t find one, far from being disappointed, she made up her own game: as she walked along the paths that bordered the gardens, she looked like a tightrope walker, and even though she fell several times, that didn’t stop her from getting back up and imagining she was a circus performer.

I enjoyed walking through this public space because the green areas were beautiful; in particular, the diverse flowers in a variety of colors caught my attention. Contemplating the shapes, shades, and sizes of the flowers and taking in their scents is a pleasant activity for me and for my daughter as well.

I laughed so, so hard when Alma tried to climb the statue of Armando Zuluaga Blanco, thinking with her innocence that she could reach the top and touch it. She still can’t tell fantasy from reality, which is why she thought she was Spider-Man. She’s always coming up with ideas like this, which is why I keep her where I can keep a close eye on her 😂

This space is quite comfortable and fairly large; besides, it wasn’t just us enjoying the facilities—other children and adults were also taking a break in the shade of the trees, watching the usual hustle and bustle of the city center.

Going for a walk with Alma is a pleasant experience when she’s in a good mood, since on some occasions—for example, on our last trip to Ayacucho Park—she didn’t want to get off the swings, and taking her home turned into an uncomfortable journey filled with her screaming and bad attitude because I wouldn’t let her spend more time on the activity she was enjoying. In that case, I managed to convince her by inviting her to lunch, ice cream included. She immediately listened and walked obediently.

That part about Alma trying to climb the statue like Spider-Man gave me a good laugh. Kids really do find their own entertainment when there are no traditional playgrounds around.
